The Tale of Two Javelins

Hi All

just thought I'd share a couple of pics of my Javelin brothers before they get parted.

I've bought them across the years as, well, I just could :) Since then they had sat on car stands on the shelves, but I hadn't done any work to them. Now the time has come to clean up the shelves a bit since the collection keeps growing, slower than in the past years, but still!

Although I still think the Javelin is one of the coolest-looking RC Cars ever, well, it doesn't rock my world as much as other cars which MUST make them to the shelves. So the one with the white rims has to go and it already found a new owner!

I've done a bit of maintenance the past couple of evenings so the new owner is happy and it allowed me to actually delve a bit deeper in the Optima/Javelin/Salute design for the first time, really  . All I can say is "wow" how have things changed quickly in the 80's. When you compare this architecture with a Mid, just released a couple of years after, the difference is shocking! So much unneeded complexity and assembly on the Javelin...

Anyways - enjoy the few pics, hopefully the quality isn't too bad, I was too lazy to pull out the Nikon so I just used the iphone + photobucket app... It isn't too often you see two Javelins together :) (yeah, I know, OptimaForever, I know... ;) )

Bye Bye, white-rimmed Javelin!

I thought at first that the plural is a typing error but it wasn't 8) . Nice brothers, sad that the other must go :( .

I think I need a Javelin
And I have just the starting point for it, an Optima which I plan to polish every part on
I was meant to sell it but ...

That's quite a pair! It's always great to see multiplicity of Kyoshos. I do understand the need for shelf space however! I just have a single Javelin but it has several Optima brothers vying for available real estate.

Those two look great. Ultimately I want a javelin body for my turbo optima chassis.

The unnecessary parts are what makes it so cool! You won't see a optima mid body made that looks like it could be a real buggy (IMO, and I love the Mids!). The roll cage just gives you that feeling that you could hop inside and drive it!

The Javelin is indeed a beauty - even with Jeff behind the wheel

If one could only find the where the cages nest.

exactly...I've been looking for parts myself for awhile now and recently put up a wanted post here at the forums. When you do find a cage they might as well be attached to gold or diamonds for what they go for :? .

Keeping my eyes on the prize of finding the parts I need is wearing thin...

All you have to do is buy one for $300+, then guaranteed you will find one on a shelf at a flea market for $5

I lucked out and got mine 2 years ago from someone who sold it on because it was "not shelf quality". Looks great on my shelf though!

Thanks for the comments guys. It's gone to its new owner now - a friend from work. I bid him (the car, not the friend!) farewell this morning. :|

Couldn't agree more on the rollcage looks, which are 95% of the appeal of the car! It's the transmission/chassis structure I was talking about. It's a PITA to work on, really...

I'm seriously wondering whether I'll work at all on this optima project I've had in a box for ages now. But then again I have this ultima that's almost finished. Javelin-Optima-Ultima is a cool lineup on a shelf

man, I'm soooo jealous right now.

If I had an r/c bucket list, The Javelin is at the top of it. it's one of those "I couldn't afford it when I was a kid" cars.

The only issue with transforming a Turbo Optima into a Javelin is finding the rollcage body!!

I have been trying to convince a guy from the bermuda who makes them... but no luck.

Check out www.kyosho-optima.com to see some beautiful Javelin rollcages.

thats a no pooper! Worse yet is trying to find 'parts' of the cage. I've found a complete cage but just couldn't justify the price when I only need the low rails and rear myself
