Spraying black pinstripes without darkening other colors?

Post by THEYTOOKMYTHUMB »

Long title I know, but some things just can't be avoided. Like burning the roof of your mouth on that first Pizza Roll, wearing your fingers to the bone assembling brand new turnbuckles, or waking up next to a fat chick after doing tequila shots in a Samoan Nightclub...

Anyhoo... I always have and always will use rattle cans to paint bodies. I just like the romance of it. One problem I've always avoided is darkening of other colors due to black being sprayed last. I've always followed the rule: darkest colors first. I have a body coming up that desperately calls for black pinstripes. The only way I can successfully pull off pinstripes is to paint them last. Therefore, I need a solution for my color dimming dilemma. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks. I thought maybe white, but silver makes more sense now that you say it.

You could always use a brush for the final step too.

+1 on silver.

Tamiya anodized silver is supposed to be backed in black so it's a win win.

Silver is opaque but will darken lighter colors its painted on top of.
Use white to prevent darkening.

I do PS1 White then PS12 Silver before over coating that with PS5 Black for show shells.
Total blackout so body colour can't be seen thru windows and total opacity
so there's no light spill from the LED buckets except where you want it to show.
