$799 is way overpriced. IMO the Trailfinder 2 is a much better truck for $400 less. I think Tamiya gouges the collectors for this nostalgic truck.

When I clicked on the link I was all excited until I saw the price.

Your right about the tralfinder 2, certainly a better truck especially at half the price.

Anyone build it yet? I want one but I feel the price is out to lunch, even with my staff discount! :|

I want one but way out of my budget. Tamiya needs to stop with the over-priced re-re's...

I hear that, seriously thought about a Super Champ, but at $300 I can buy quite a few bodies for my original Champs and run them.
You'd think they would see Kyosho selling the Scorp for $200 and would be a bit more competitive in price.
I do love those Tamiya hard bodies :)

Good insight, the only thing I disagree with is the manufacturing cost. Yes the materials have all gone up in price, but with cheap labor and efficient tooling, manufacturing costs should be down. Kyosho has proved this with the fantastic Taiwan made Scorpion.

Great points and I agree. But, how is Tamiya shooting themselves in the foot?

Yes, but Tamiya still manufactures many kits in Japan where costs are higher. For example, the Mountain Rider box says "Made in Japan". (This actually surprised me - I figured it would have said "Made in Philippines" and then I wouldn't have an argument)
Besides, the Scorpion is just a bunch of stamped and bent metal sheet for the most part. How hard is that to reproduce? (I kid, I kid. Full disclosure: I bought two Scorpion 2014 kits)

Of course some of the price is just name brand premiums. Just like "green paint costs more" when you buy a certain brand of tractor.
