Lengthwise battery in original Ultima

Has anyone figured out a way to mount a battery lengthwise in the original Ultima? I'm not talking about using an aftermarket extended wheelbase carbon chassis or anything like that. I am asking about doing this with the original aluminum chassis. Are there shorter packs than standard out there? Or has anyone figured out how to turn the servo 90 degrees and use different steering linkage?

sounds like you want a 'Shorty' pack.
like this : http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCPLT&P=0

I can't speak to whether or not it will specifically fit in this case, but it'll give you the best chance.

I can confirm that a shorty pack fits in the Ultima mk1. A setup like that was run in the Nordic Vintage Challenge a few months ago.

Good ole shorty lipo. I would like to see more vintage enthusiasts using them. it makes designing trays and decks for these old cars easier. Sometimes, they fit without having to make new holes in the vintage chassis.

Yes, there is a way to fit a standard 6 cell pack length wise. I've seen where people dremel the real buklhead so it sits closer to the chassis. They then move the steering servo up very close to the stock bell crank.

I think Eric (Mr. ED) did this on one of his ultimas: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2172
