eBay rc10 build

I got this car off eBay last week. From what I can tell its an early Cadillac car. For now all I want to do is clean it up but I have plans to build an era correct racer.

The car is pretty clean, some scratches on the bottom of the chassis and the steering bell cranks are cracked. The previous owner put the notch on the side to clear his stick packs. I think trimming down the sides of the chassis will hide most of the damage.

Looks like a good clean slate 8) bummer about the chassis but your correct- trimming the sides down will fix it

I cleaned up all the parts and removed the flashing, I was thinking about soaking the white parts in peroxide but I think they look good now.

I am really happy with how the chassis turned out, there are a couple of scratches where that notch was but I didn't want to trim the sides so much.

Did he drill through the original holes in the chassis on this one?

Thanks!

Right, I found the pic going throught this thread http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=186&start=45

I'm guessing that the outboard row of holes are just drilling through the originals and the inboard row, closer to the battery, are just indexed off of the outer row.

Looks like it. There was a template in a thread that I stole, but it's a different pattern.

I've seen that pic in a couple threads. Is there a specific car that they're replicating? why have a template for holes that are somewhat random

iirc this was a "team" thing. It does seem random but I wonder if it was a balance thing.

If your goal is to build a replica of Halsey's 85 worlds car, do not drill the holes in that chassis.

If your goal is to replicate the car you posted above, yes, the holes were opened up down the sides and another row was added towards the inside. I dont think there were any under the battery.

Ok thanks. I have no intentions of building a specific replica, I just want it too look like a team drivers car of that era.

I think that the holes look cool but their purpose(s) are cooling, weight, flex - or all of the above? haha

It's main purpose was to allow dirt to escape... i believe.

and trimming the sides was for looks or flex?

Probably more of a weight thing, but it would take away some rigidity as well.
