2 Kyosho Lazer - which versions?
Hi guys,
Got 2 Kyosho Lazer yesterday. They're almost complete and basically in good shape... But I'm not such a Kyosho freak and I don't know exactly what i bought
Both cars are Lazers, but which version do I have? ZX-R, ZX-RR, ZX Sport? No idea... Here are some pictures:

Second car

Re: 2 Kyosho Lazer - which versions?
I think the top one is a zx with a custom motor plate.
The bottom one may be a zx-rr - the shocks look like they come from that lazer.
See if it's got the hyperclutch slipper too.

Re: 2 Kyosho Lazer - which versions?
Hi Naushad,
Thank you for help. I just compared my cars with ZX and ZX-RR manuals and pictures.
The second buggy should be a ZX-RR, yes
But I'm not really sure if the first one is a ZX? The ZX seems to have a different shock towers, on the front and rear, different top plate...I also noticed that miine has universals on front and rear but I don't know if it could be an option? The ZX hast dogbones on the rear... Maybe it's really a ZX but with different shock towers an upgraded universals on rear. That's of course a possibility
Cheers,
Daniel

Re: 2 Kyosho Lazer - which versions?
Im not an expert and im not real familiar with all the diferences but the first looks like a zxr. single top piece, 7 slots and, and open webbing on the suspension arms.
The second looks to be a zxr mk2, 6 slot chassis which moved the saddle packs forward also the top deck is a little different than a standard zxr. also the motor support plate is different.
Im not real familiar with the zxrr so I could be mistaken but I think the zxrr had a 7 slot chassis

I don’t think the top one is an RR, some parts are missing. Wrong rear hub’s and wrong shocks and wrong turn buckles. Probably an upgraded ZX...
Did you get both cars from the same guy?

Re: 2 Kyosho Lazer - which versions?
Second one is a ZX-RR as it has the Hyperclutch and grey/black shocks.
The first one is difficult. The shock towers almost look like they could be aluminium that has been painted (silverish bits where worn). It can't be a ZX-RR or ZX-R Mk. II as those both have the short motor plate. So I guess ZX-R with options.

Hi guys,
Thank you for your help.
So the second is a ZX-RR, i agree. I compared with other cars and it seems to be right.
The first car...so it looks like a mistery i will ask on the oople forum. The uk guys are kyosho specialists
Yes i get both cars from the same guy for a really good price. He gave up that hobby since years and don't know any more which versions they are

Re: 2 Kyosho Lazer - which versions?
Okay, I've been studying the ZX-R manual and also asked in the Oople Forum.
The first car is basically a ZX-R mk1 with an mk2 front shock tower.
I will need some parts to complete the car correctly: an new gear box on the front, front mk1 shock tower, other turnbuckles and rod end on the front, complete slipper clutch, battery straps, dog bones on the rear and the rear hub carriers. Kyosho vintage parts are sooo expensive
The ZX-RR is almost complete, just need to disassemble the car, clean each part and assembling.
So if anybody has some parts, don't hesitate to contact me
Cheers,
Daniel

Those are spiffy! So, zxrr,, just different shock towers, hyper clutch, and different shocks? Looks like slightly different deck too? Wasnt the stock zxr clutch also hyper clutch?

A good thing would be to put up a request in the BST sectionVale wrote:Okay, I've been studying the ZX-R manual and also asked in the Oople Forum.

I think it is as follows:rccars4sal wrote:Those are spiffy! So, zxrr,, just different shock towers, hyper clutch, and different shocks? Looks like slightly different deck too? Wasnt the stock zxr clutch also hyper clutch?
ZX-R Mk.1 doesn't have the hyperclutch (white pad, spur mounts on outside of clutch) but does have a slipper (red pads, spur is sandwiched between pads, required a special model of spur). Long two-piece motor plate and corresponding chassis.
ZX-R Mk. II also has the red-pad slipper, but uses the short one-piece motor plate and corresponding chassis. Gold shocks, new shock towers, c-hubs with extra hole, long front universals.
ZX-RR is basically a ZX-R Mk. II but with the Hyperclutch and new (Ultimate) shocks.
