I'm an old guy (50s) with no experience with RC stuff. Anyway, someone moving away gave me this TQ10 RC car with a controller. I got a battery for it and tested the car out last night and promptly broke the front left arm.

I just want to get the car going so my 13 year old daughter and run it around.

So what is RC10? RC obviously means Radio Controlled and maybe 10 is the scale? The box my TQ10 says 1/10 scale so I'm just guessing. Is RC10 something that from the 80s?

The box also says something about Team Associated. What is that?

So I've done some inquiries at some of the online RC vendors about an arm and was referred here.

I've found two vendors that appear to sell newly manufactured arms that might fit my car:

the tq10 is basically an rc10 with a graphite chassis. they were made and packaged by team associated and sold only through horizon hobbies.

the "RC" in rc10 actually stand for one of the founders of team associated, roger curtis (rc). the 10 would be the scale.

the tq10 came with both short (your first link) and long (second link) arms. if your car has the short ones, unless you want to get into purchasing longer turnbuckles, you'd be better of sticking with them. if it already has the long arms, then go with those.

one thing with those rpm arms, your lower shock rod end won't fit in that arm. the ball is too big. you'd be better off going with these:

Thanks for the advice on the short and long arms. So short arms are the default? I measured the length of the broken arm and it is just under 2.5 inches or approximately 6 cm. How does one insert an image into a post?

the short arms came on the early cars, wide arms on the late ones. you probably have the wide arms with that measurement.

I know those E clips occasionally shoot off when taking them off and the size makes them hard to find at times.

I usually use a small screw driver to get them off and pliers to put them back on.

Thanks for the advice on the small screw driver. I had already found my smallest screw driver and got the clips off without incident.

I also did a more precise measurement of the arm length. Looks like 2 5/16 inches or 6 cm. I sent an email to Tower Hobbies to see if that length matches what they have.

What is the story on the tires? The back tires have tread on them but they are very soft. Are they inflated somehow? They seem to work good.

The front tires do not have tread on them but are more of a solid foam type tire. One of the front tires has a chunk torn off it on the inside.

Its hard to understand exactly what you have without seeing pictures. I really dont know much about the TQ-10 car and what It normally came with so w/o pictures, I cant be much help. Scr8p on the other hand is much more knowledgeable than me.

The link scr8p posted shows how to upload a file from your computer, If it is already online somewhere, you can click the Img button that is below the subject line. It will produce two sets of brackets with img in them. you can then post the web address of the picture between those brackets. Make sure It has the file type Ex: .jpg, .png in the url.

Odds are for your front arms, The ones that look similar to the ones on the car are what you should use. The part might be a different color (white or black) but the sizes shouldn't have changed.

Most people put foam inserts into the tires to keep them from flattening. If the tires were not glued to the rim, you should be able to pull them off the rim and take a look.

I've got no clue about your front tires without seeing a picture.

if its not one of those,it may be an RPM or Andys aftermarket arm- however its not likely as they rarely break!

as Scr8p said, you can purchase a RPM arm for greater durability, but you need the later style ball ends

My photo definitely matches the later arms. Thanks for the great post. I'll order a set of the later arms tomorrow.

Took a five pictures of the TQ10 without the ugly orange body on it. Just wondering what you can tell me about the car from the pictures. Is it a rather standard setup?

that a nice real deal TQ10, a few items and it will be a very good example. How is the bottom of the chassis?

it's basically an original car, nothing fancy. looks to be in nice shape though.

the front tires are more of an on-road tire. but you can get newer wheels and tires that will fit to take it back to an off-road buggy. it really depends where your daughter is going to be running it (what kind of surface).

If you need a manual, the RC10 Graphite is basically the same car. I think the TQ10 had a unique body but that was pretty much it.

I had one, my first new R/C car. Now I wish I never sold it 15+ years ago.



The only think it looks like it needs, besides a new front arm (and a 'proper' set of off-road tires and wheels), is a replacement battery strap.

Associated has gone back and forth between white and black parts over the years. Sometimes improvements have been made to the nylon or the molds, but they are generally functionally identical.
