I pulled the trigger on this just because I figured I couldn't go wrong at this price. I don't know much about AE on-road cars but all that carbon fiber and spare parts HAD to be a good deal...

I'm having a tough time identifying 2 of the 3 chassis plates...doing some eBay searches and searching here too. The bottom right one looks like AE #4507 for the RC12L3, but I can't find much information about the other two.

EDIT: I'll probably choose whichever one is best (suggestions?) and build it up from a parts car I'll buy at a later date. TBG has a nice-looking 1:12 Charger body that would look sweet. 8)

Crc Carpet Knifes.

Correction: Speed merchants

Thanks Phin, that sure helped! It looks like those are SpeedMerchant Rev3 chassis plates, similar to the Rev2 except with a reversible battery plate that allows you to adjust the battery position forward or back a quarter inch.

So it seems to me that SpeedMerchant are some kind of boutique car manufacturer and probably proprietary, or can you assemble them with RC12 parts? Pardon my ignorance. :)

I don't know the exacts but Team Speed Merchant has always been very closely related to CRC and use CRC parts to build their cars. Speed Merchant may have originally been the racing team for CRC as early RCCA ads and articles mention them together.

The chassis in the upper right looks very much like original CRC Carpet Knife differeing only in the hole cut outs. The original CRC carpet Knife used 12L rear pod parts, then 12LC, then CRC versions of the AE pods.

Cool thing about pan cars from that era was that they often borrowed parts from AE, and/or made conversions kits for AE cars which made parts from different companies very interchangeable.

I'll build up one of these, I'm guessing the AE chassis would be the best option, as I could pick up an RC12L parts car rather inexpensively and do a TBG 1:12 Charger body on it. I might sell or trade some or all of the SpeedMerchant chassis plates to help fund the project. AE RC12 gurus, I'd love to hear your suggestions building up the RC12L, as I've never done an on-road 1:12 car before.

Hey now...scr8p can build a kyosho so you should be able to handle an associated 2wd buggy...or are you scared?

Well for one, I didn't get an awesome deal on four 2WD 1:10 buggy chassis'...but if one of you feels generous enough to send an educational project chassis my way, I'll find a way to overcome my fear.

Do a DS. That combines the on-road and the Associated 2WD buggy.
