Its been an interesting relationship with my gt.. It was my first rc back when I originally got into the hobby many years back. Was my primary weapon during all the racing I attended during my younger days. Lots of sunburned priceless memories from those days with family and friends at the race facilities we attended. Now life has taken over and hobbies have altered, but this darn rc10gt stays pretty close by.. Last time I picked it up a couple years ago I did quite a few additions just to make it mobile once again. Tires, body, and a new .18 for fun.. Plus a few repair items. I got it nice and presentable once again.. But after a couple uses it sat.
The gt already had a rrp steel diff gear and idler gear, Full rpm plastics, and
Associated titanium hinge pins and turn buckles.. All over 10 years old
I added the 1/4" cvd's and rpm 1/4" hubs during this build to replace the 3/16" axles and dog bones.
Here was my last attempt to bring some life back to it
new life to my gt

Re: new life to my gt
Recently I got an itch while scrolling through flea bay. I found myself a desirable item from my youth in the form of a mip stinger.. No doubt that set the hook and here I am trying to complete a v2 of my old rc10gt. Some gpm aluminum and some completely different gen components, I've gotten myself this creation thus far..
Trying to track down the proper tank for these gpm frames and some other bits left to track down. But its shaping up pretty nicely.
In this build I've added onto the last attempt to improve the clutch with a mip spring clutch variant. I also went ahead and replaced most and maybe all dated rpm with aluminum bulkheads as thread conditions were mostly poor in the composite components. Aluminum transmission case and brace as the previous plastic unit was in poor shape. Also replaced the steering bulkhead with the gpm unit as I broke the associated plastic one for the last time! I am looking to improve the sloppy steering even more. I replaced c hubs for the first time and also did new knuckles and spindles to remove hinge pin play.. But still has play in the ball cups on the turn buckles. I may replace the ball and cup with heim type ball stud ends.
Ill post some pictures of the frame I replaced later on.. It looks as if it had 100000 miles on it. Became so thin in the rear from all the abuse it received from years of the dirt

Re: new life to my gt
Nice truck. Great story. My story goes a lot like yours, and my favorite gt has also been overhauled many times over the years.
Sounds like you have a good setup. For the rod ends I highly recommend the Traxxas Rustler/Stampede/Bandit captured ends. I have been running them on all my trucks for about twenty years, I wouldn't use anything else. Order Traxxas part number #1942, it comes with 16 rod ends and 4 "small ends" that you can use as shock rod ends. Depending on your setup you may still need to use ball cups/studs on the inside of the front end, But that's fine since the insides will hardly ever pop off.

Re: new life to my gt
Thanks for the advise on the rod ends. I always had my eyes on the traxxas ends but never got around to determining what would work with the gt. Ill be sure to check into those now.
