Patches, the Lovable Mongrel

Ever since I sold my old bits-n-pieces RC10CE, I've been wanting to build another mongrel. Somehow I like the beat-up mismatched cars better than the clean like-new ones. Which works out well, because they're also much cheaper to build.

I've been gathering parts for a while, and found the last few odds and ends I needed in that big lot I bought a couple weeks ago. So here it is:

Parts used:
"A" stamp pan with a few extra holes in the bottom
Old-style nose plate with the anodizing stripped off (not by me)
6-gear trans with full bearings (thanks again, Roger)
Black CE rear suspension parts
Short front arms, uprights and C-hubs of assorted colors
Blue nose tubes (old Factory Team parts?)
Blue rear shocks from some RTR or other
Kyosho Gold front shocks
Black jellybean rear wheels with Kyosho treaded tires
Pro-Line Tamiya fronts with Waffle tires

I'm not sure if the rolling stock is what I'll use or not; they're awfully nice and kinda rare. And a few of the old ball cups I used are hanging by a thread; I'll have to replace them before I run it. Not sure what to do for a body either.

That looks great!

I've pieced together a few mongrel RC10s myself over the years. For some reason they always seem to be the most enjoyable cars when it comes to backyard bashing. Throw some junk wheels and tires on that thing, and go have some fun. :)

It's alive, and it's awesome:

Which only goes to show you can't kill these things. If I can build a decent runner out of leftovers, scraps, and spares, then there will always be an RC10 in my life. And that's a pretty cool thought.

I should put a gear cover on it, and install a different ESC. I used an old Duratrax DTX-4, for the nostalgia factor, but it's all glitchy and I forgot how irritating it is not having reverse.

And yes, that's the same old body. I'm painting a new one for my re-re, so this one got bumped to the mongrel.
