6 gear update to newer slipper clutch?

Post by Twin Detonator »

I've got an old 6 gear tranny that needs a rebuild, what is needed to put on a new stock 48P clutch set up or V2 48P slipper clutch set up?
I'll put in new bearings, and new classic gears inside, but what about the thrust bearing set up and and top gears? Can I just use all new classic parts inside?
THX,
Lynn

you can't put a slipper clutch on a 6 gear.

just use all of the re-release stuff for the classic.

That part of the 6-gear transmission is also the diff, so just having a slipper there wouldn't work. You can get other 48P spurs that work on the 6-gear, if that's what you are mainly looking to do.

The stealths are going for very little money, $65+, and that gets you the dual slipper too. I'd take that route if you want power handling and efficiency.

Actually, you can run a slipper set up on your 6 gear.
I replaced the diff balls with 1/8" traxxas slipper pegs, with pinned diff rings. Posi drive, great for mud.
Unfortunately, this set up ripped the ends off both of my Rayborn slider shafts when I landed a jump on power running a 9t motor. So in hindsight, not such a practical idea.

Kimbrough makes an 81T 48p spur gear with diff balls. At $6.59, it's a cheap way to get you going.

You no longer had a diff. The Raborn sliders are just JRX2 sliders that were cut down.
