It all started when I recently I bought some aluminum body mounts for my Tamiya Lunchbox. I took the body mounts off and found that I had already replaced the stock mounts with aluminum mounts. Pretty bad when you forget what you've done in the past. But what I saw was that my pristine new wheels were starting to corrode. So I dropped by the hardware store to pick up some scotch brute pads. Using my drill and some old cut down axles I sanded off the corrosion with two different abrasive scotch bright pads. I then used some cotton balls and Mother's Mag wheel polish to finish them to a high shine.





The process worked so well I used it on some nasty, corroded See's Rc10 wheels.

Nice.. Those all came out great.. Love the LB.. The RC10 wheels look soo much better.. Night and day difference..

Those came out awesome. You've had that Lunch Box a long time no? Which Scotch-Brite pads did you use specifically? I have a pair of front Sees wheels I got off eBay a few years back that have some corrosion.

Wish my rc10 Sees wheels look that good maybe if i polished them and found the other rear one id be set. don

Great job, I know first hand what it's like to polish those See's. Not something I enjoyed. Until they were done, then I enjoyed it.

Beautiful polishing job on those wheel sets! I know some guys prefer the satin finish, but I for one appreciate the hard work that's needed to get aluminum to glow with a mirror finish. Chrome is bling, but polished aluminum is elbow grease & class.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I was pleased with how they turned out. I used two different scotch brite pads. Matron that has quite a bit of abrasive to sand the corrosion off then the grey scotch brute with a lot less abrasive to smooth out the finish and get it ready for polish. The grey leaves a satin finish but everyone knows I'm the Jimmy Bling King so I just couldn't leave it there

Damn, that did work well! Looks awesome with that body too.

Yeah, a "before/after" wheel resto thread would be a good idea.

Here is a set of Tecnacrafts I restored. there was a lot of corrosion on these wheels


used a lathe and, scotch brite and some mothers to get this





Here is finished product on my sprint car. Iused Tamiya Clear paint for the centers

Ahh, having a machine like that would save so much time and wrist/hand muscle strain!

A lathe is a wonderful machine, you can do so much with it.

Someday I'll buy one, I've always wanted one. For now, I use the "drill-in-a-vise" specialty tool.

Jeebus crisp... those tecnacrafts look amazing.. the polish job makes those wheels dance the light electric.. but seriously, they do look way better than the usual satin finish of most metal wheels.. good job "Jimmy Bling King"..
