ESC to power BEC RX - voltmeter but little knowledge

Alright chaps, I've been lurking on the Kyosho section of rc10talk for a few weeks now and had some great advice from members.
I have a Kyosho Beetle based on a wrecked Scorpion that had been in the loft for over 20 years. I have an old ESC which works but only if I plug a 4AA battery pack into the receiver (Acoms AR2/27 with BEC). I was hoping that the ESC would pass 5v odd required for the RX along the control connector into the ch2 RX pins. However the ESC is only passing 1.59v which is not enough to power RX therefore having to use additional battery pack. Is this just the nature of the cheap ESC? I never ran ESC's back in the 80's so still a bit hazy on it.

more than likely, the BEC circuit is blown out in the ESC.

Thanks, anyone else think the ESC is damaged?

Yes, if that's all your getting from red to black you have a bec problem.

If you plugged it into an acoms without checking the polarity, that's probably what did it
iirc acoms was the same as Sanwa, and they reversed the power and ground from futaba. Let's see some connectors

I'd be going with what has previously been stated about the ESC BEC being kaput...

Here's a pic of the same ESC, running off a 7.2v pack (showing 7.9v).

As gomachv says, look at the connector for the ESC... in the pic (and in your pic showing the leads), it is white - red - black, the normal pinout for receivers. Compare that with your receiver and servo, as I have Acoms and Sanwa stuff with both white - red - black and white - black - red (or black - black - red)....

Not the end of the world, those ESCs are pretty cheap.... but helpful to know I guess....
