I thought I'd share my other profession with all of you. I have been at it for the past 9 years. I'm working my up to doing the rose egg.

Now were talking! That takes some talent. What are you using to cut with?
I deal with all sorts of stones daily, I have even tried to polish and round a big batch of opals once.

I use an ultra tec v5. About the hardest thing I can cut is Corundum. In fact it's the soft stuff that's difficult to get a polish on. I can't cut diamonds YET but I'm building another machine that will be able to. It's about 90% done. Although that will be a bit more nerve racking. What kind of stones do you deal with? Is your name a clue?

I deal with all gemstones, buying and selling. The only experience I have had with cutting and polishing is the opal fiasco I mentioned.
I bought a bucket full of rough opal cut, and proceeded to butcher it with my dremel.
I was able to get to the point where all the white rock and lime and opal crush was removed and then I used
my bench grinder and many different polishing wheels and compounds to create a few nice opal singlets. A few cabochon as well, no faceted stones.
Good luck with the diamonds. From what we have seen, it looks like you should have no problem getting it done.
What is a
few hundred bucks(?) on a rough cut diamond that may not turn out right?
