1st gen stealth topshaft with b4 slipper?

i've read i can use a b4 topshaft on an old stealth, but then i lose my rpm tranny.
looking at the b4 topshaft image on tower, it appears that is has a flat on the shaft instead of the crosspin that the older stealth uses.
can i just grind-down the topshaft on a 1st gen stealth to fit the b4 slipper?
i'm gonna order the parts and see if it works regardless. i suspect i can grind the shaft down but i dont know if it is threaded tthe same to retain the different slipper.

I don't think it will work out Hoop, the B4 top shaft is way longer than the one from the original Stealth...

Hoopty, a B4 top shaft is also longer than the old cross pin top shaft (it could just be for the longer slipper spring though). If you can mill the flat spots with a machine to keep everything even, it might work out and then just use a smaller slipper spring.

I agree ^. The length is not that much more. The B4 spring and longer shaft probably give a little less sensitive adjustment. I'll compare both today, I've got 'em on the bench.

Hmmm, maybe it won't work...

Looks like the inner hub might rub on the motorplate. I didn't gather all the other slipper pieces (normal and T3 type) to see how they compare...

Like you might be able to use a T3 inner hub and the B4 outer...

so move the motor plate. just remove the stock spacers and replace them with 4 shock spacers off an assorted shock spacer set. shock spacers fit snugly inside the recessed tranny holes. i do this on my oval cars to move the motor and plate to the left. my plates sit right up against the tranny, just make sure to use calipers and make sure all 4 spacers are exactly the same or you will chew spur gears.

No prob... I'll gather up all the various slipper parts and see if I can mock up a few to see if it's really doable with the RPM topshaft. I'd like to do the same thing with my siebenelcher racer.

thx again temple.
in the usefull links sticky i quoted a post where somebody did the b4 topshaft swap, looks like it fits the motor plate fine and all that.
i ordered 2 b4 shafts just in case...

I think the problem lies in the RPM topshaft. The B4 setup is a straight drop in for a non-RPM 'box. It's whether you have enough shaft (huh huh) to deal with the funny offset of the B4 slipper plates.
Pics tomorrow.

Am I being dumb having been away for a while but didn't someone write a how to on this already?
Their car had an orange or pink tub and they adapted the B? slipper to the stealth, I forgot who it was and haven't found it using the search...

hoopty's wants to do this to an rpm gearbox. the topshaft that comes with it isn't the same as a standard stealth, or b4 topshaft. it has less teeth on it to lower the gear ratio. so, it's not as easy as just buying a b4 topshaft and putting it in.
