Favourite Yokomo and why?

I've mostly been into the RC10 but do have a soft spot and respect for the Yokomo variants.

Please detail what your personal favourite Yokomo model is and why...

Maybe post photos if you own, or have seen a particularly lovely example somewhere
which inspired your choice of personal favourite.

:D

Great thread...for me it had to be the 91' Works Yokomo's, potentially more for posterity reasons than anything else. I was living overseas in Asia and it was for first high end car I had ever purchased (after bashing around a Marui Big Bear and a modified Hotshot/Supershot). The components and quality blew me away, the sleek body and seeming lower profile with larger and aggressive wheel/tire combo's and it just seemed like such a drastic step forward, technically, from the 870's. Actually starting a rebuild from some well loved parts I have been assembling and couldn't be happier.

Always the '94 for me. It was my second true race car, after an early Ttech that scared with me its blistering speed, but flawed fragility, the '94 was easy to drive, quick, and built like a tank, i really only raced on road, and in an age where 190mm was just starting to filter in, the converted touring buggies have a huge place in my heart. Had so many great races with my original '94, and it never failed, not once, sad i sold her, but was lucky enough to build me a very close replica to what i had back then, only the Masami shell, is a lot better than my early efforts lol.

Very hard to say. I have one 870c, one '91 Works, one '93 Works, and five '94 YZ10s, each of which is different in their own way. They are all shelfers except for the 870 and one of the '94s. After spending some time with the 870, getting it to jump well enough, I have to say it is an awesome runner and I actually like driving it more than my '94 runner (which I admittedly have spent less time on...so it's not an entirely fair comparison). So at least as far as runners go, for now at least, I have to go with the 870 or any of them based on that platform ('91, '92, '93 works). Aesthetically, though, the '94 wins hands down. Probably the sexiest r/c car ever made. Maybe after I spend more time with my '94, I'll also prefer it as a runner...we'll see...

Good thread Kink.

For me it is hard to choose one Yokomo as my favourite as I am fond of every example but especially the versions with Masaaki and Masami Hirosaka DNA. The Works '91 and 93 WCS are among the favorites as they were essentially production prototypes of the cars Masami used at the 1989 and 1993 IFMAR World Championships.

I can't decide which Yokomo is my favourite, out of my collection I have a top three.

WCS 93 I love the prototype feel about it, although the only significant difference to the production 94 is the use of the works/870c modified bulkhead and the 2mm pitch drive train.

Works 93 because it's the final evolution of the 870c chassis.

Finally the MR4 BX worlds, the last of the Masami designed Yokomo's (I think) and the last belt drive Yokomo, the heritage of which can be traced back to the YMP MX 4 mid motor conversion.

As I learn more about these yokomo cars, I become more impressed by the design. Its interesting that none have any provision for belt covers, and the diff bulk heads are pretty much completely open to debris. I havent even layed hands on any model yet, but just from pics my favorite would be the yz10 with curved lower arms, and hinge pin type upper front arms. Looks incredibly cool.

If I had to choose I would say that the 870C/YZ-10 would be my favorite but it would be due to my childhood dream to own one of these.. Lucky for me I was able to find one and then another and a Works 93.. I will get a Works 91 and a 94 one day.. 8)
