I bought a yz10. Was wondering what other models are directly related. Possibly some touring cars? Cars that share suspension arm width, bulk heads, chassis, diffs, pullies, belts?

At the top of this forum is a great bit of condensed Yokomo model info, has most everything there.

The sticky is roughly helpful for my query, but still wondering what cars shared diffs, pullies, suspension, bulkheads. Possibly some touring cars based on yz10 shared bulkheads, diffs, pullies? What off road models possibly shared suspension arms, bulkheads? Where is the time line broken between yz10 based models and mx4 based models? Im a Kyosho guy, so those type of relationships are mostly known to me regarding the 4wd cars anyway,, but Yokomo seemed to make running changes, and introduce new models based on driver mods,,a bit more often. So its hard to tell where the timeline can encompass the generalized yz10/870c design into several models that would share a larger number of components,, both on and off road...

Actually,, Im even more confused. It looks like yz10 had solid molded lower arms, and heavy upper arms with a hinge pin inner and a ball link outer??? SSoooo,,, 870c used the more common squared off lower arms, and tierod upper link???

I did a rebuild of an 870C chassis. It is the same as the early YZ-10 sold in the US through AE. It has the solid lower arms and the tie rod upper links. Up to the Works93 the same type of suspension set up was used (along with extra links) and was changed a bit in the 93WCS and 94 and beyond based on what I read on here when I was researching my build (and future ones in the works).

Look down to kenooze's post. It shows an up close of the 93WCS and 94-up suspension set-up.

I would take a look at some of the builds around here. They are very detailed and have lots of pictures that are great for reference. Looking forward to see what you bought. Yokomo's are loads of fun. Wanted one since I was a kid and proceeded to buy 3.

Im thinking this is going to be a hybrid build. Pretty sure its an 870c, but hoping to fit the yz10 type arms. Like the kyosho cars, Ill probably have to buy a whole heap of them to make a couple... Fun!

Allright,, so now Im knee deep in yz10 or 870c parts cars. Ive got one that uses the top plate, and 2 that use the vertical backbone type chassis. Its pretty obvious that the vertical backbone type have alot more flex. So, Im wanting to convert them to use a top plate. Seems like a common drive set up is to use a 1 way at the spur gear, and then ball diffs on the ends. Hoping to find a proper slipper set up for one car. Really a simple and elegant, if somewhat primitive design. I can see the attraction to collecting them. They look as though they would just work without much fuss. Its also become a bit more clear that my tomy intruder is based off this design. So, hopefully, I can build 3 slightly different cars from these beginnings.

If you intend on using any of them as a runner, then I would suggest using at least one of them as a parts car. Some components can be hard to find (kingpins) and/or expensive (e.g., magnesium steering knuckles/rear hub carriers).

Oh yeah! Im all about the runners. Ill get pics up soon. Im going to dismantle my intruder too, and see just how compatible it is with these cars. Hopefully, it can contribute to the over all project..
