Garage sales
Today I went to a garage sale that was advertised on craigslist. There was a bunch of great stuff but unfortunetley the guy selling wanted premium eBay prices for everything. When I asked about the NIB jeep wrangler he said he would have to look it up. Right then I asked if he was selling these cars or just going to display them. I also told him that if he wanted eBay prices for his stuff then he should list them on eBay

Re: Garage sales
Did he sell anything? Seems like he was just wasting everybody's time if not...including wasting his own time taking everything out to display it all day, only to bring it all back inside.

Re: Garage sales
Don't you know? Every small town has a huge market for premium priced vintage rc's. I'm surprised all the fools selling their stuff on the internet never thought of having a garage sale!

Re: Garage sales
So the guy is a prick just because he wasn't willing to give away his vintage RC cars at ridiculously low prices? I'm just playing the devil's advocate here, but perhaps those of us who feel we are somehow entitled to get bargain basement prices at garage sales are actually the pricks...

Re: Garage sales
He had some nice stuff! And I'm sure he still has all of it. The chances of selling something at a yard sale for an eBay price are very unrealistic. It he doesn't want to sell online and refuses to sell at a yard sale for less, I will be first in line for the yard sale his wife has after he passes!

Re: Garage sales
I would be there as well, looks like he has some great stuff. Go back sunday if he still has the garage sale going and make another offer.
Have some cash in your hand, (so they can see it) showing you are willing to buy. Good luck, hope you get a kit or two.

Re: Garage sales
Been to a few like this also shodog recently. Mostly though they were in OK to decent shape wanting premium ebay prices
One happens to pick up alot from the lhs and then come back after running the snot outta them and wanting his $ back for it breaking or burning up.
Did you end up with anything at all from the sale?

Re: Garage sales
Didn't buy a darn thing. I brought $350 cash with me but it wasn't enough for the bruiser or a clapped out Hilux that's not in the picture. I would have like the bruiser as it was unrun but looked like it was painted by a seventh grader. I asked about the Ferrari and the jeep and both times he said he'd have to look up a price. I was like whatever, bid him good luck on the sale and left. The kicker was that he said he recognized me when I bought a Wild Willy from him about 4 years ago.

Re: Garage sales
Ahhh, that might do it. When he says he will have to look up a price... If there is no price tag on it, it is open game.
Give em a super low offer and hope they get annoyed, as you know right away you are not leaving with anything.

Re: Garage sales
I offered him $200 for this clapped out Hilux the chassis was beat with bent leaf springs and a hashed body. He just laughed at me. That's when I said the the display or sell comment.

Re: Garage sales
the last one I visited started out by saying that his prices were ebay based. I replied that ebay was the best place to sell an ebay priced item and he laughed and asked what my problem was

Re: Garage sales
No, actually it makes him a dumbass. What did he think, that every collector in the U.S. was going to show up in his front yard? No one is going to pay ebay prices at a garage sale, nor should they be expected too. Also he needs to trim his bush. He's disgracing the American flag by letting it drag a surface...ChisaiKuso wrote:So the guy is a prick just because he wasn't willing to give away his vintage RC cars at ridiculously low prices? Re: Garage sales
He expected to sell that collector stuff at a garage sale????? I guess I can sell my vintage dirt bikes for peanuts too my neighbor had one years ago and was selling some battery powered alarm clock for like .50 cents and some fool asked him if batteries were included this guy is crazy to think he can get good money in his front yard.
