Curious what you guys think about using the new parts for an old build?? Like what would you do when building, or doing a resto on old AE buggy. With the rarity and cost of old store stock,plus the condition of used parts, is it okay to sub new parts when you have not much choice. Building a Team car with a current chassis and parts chime in on this I like to see what members think and thanks.

If your building it for the shelf, YOU will know it ain't right and it will haunt you!

LOL yea me too, I expected that kind of remark from you gomachv. As for ebay I did not even consider that, but in the future that will happen, some guy is running the car and breaks a part he more than likely will substitute.

yes, it is a fact we will have to deal with. People, forum members even, are listing parts for double the retail price The parts for the classic are not too hard to distinguish from original, but as an assembled car it is much harder to tell

Shhhh...don't tell anyone, but I plan to use some re-re parts on my old shelfers. I recently built a runner with about 50% re-re parts.

As long as you don't try to pass them off as the originals, I don't see the problem.

I'm seeing the new steering kits that you can get for $9 new online selling on ebay for $15.

Honestly, it doesn't matter much to me, but I'm not a collector. Full-scale classic cars have been infused with reproduction parts (especially trim and interior bits) for many years now. For most people, it's a good way of keeping a beloved classic on the road without spending many dollars and years tracking down "real" parts. And really, if your '66 Mustang turns heads, goes fast, and makes you feel cool, what does it matter that the interior door panels weren't made by Ford in 1966?

From this point forward, if you want a 100% original RC10, buy it now, never run it, and it will stay original. But for those of us who run our cars, stuff wears out, and if re-re/repro parts are cheaper or easier to get, they'll be used. In ten years, there won't be a used RC10 in circulation that doesn't have some parts made after 2013 in it.

But thanks to this re-re, in ten years, there still will be used RC10s in circulation.

The difference is there's still a bajillion original RC10's around, and they're not that old yet. A lot of classic cars have decades on the RC10 and they were made in much less quantities. You also couldn't store them in a box in the basement. They usually sat outside in the elements. That's why I think reproduction classic car parts are more accepted. One day in the distant future we'll have no choice to use reproduction parts but for now I think it's still a little too early. I definitely understand where you're coming from though.

That person that was selling them 15 has raised the price now to 25

In the RCCA issue about the classic they guy at AE stated lots of replacement parts to come, stock and some other goodies.I don't think anyone should worry about them running out of them.I hope they repop some other black parts.

I am hoping they reproduce more white parts... it's way too hard to dye black parts white

I'm redoing my buggie with the new re re white parts so I can have a box art shelf queen car that I always have wanted.

agree with all, plan to run it, whoL cares they work, and still let you enjoy and use it. For me my shelf queens are used vehicles.

For me i dont build for or think about the next person. I usually dont plan a next person, real and rc cars i build it for the now for me the reason for buying it and enjoy.
