New build Tamiya Big Wig.

Another kit I have had for a while now. Decided it was time to get it built. I will be leaving this one pretty much stock with exception of the shocks. I scored a set of gold You-G adjustable dampening shocks that I plan on using on it if they fit properly. I have a new 8.4V Tamiya battery pack that will be used. No ESC in this one, I plan on using the mechanical speed control that is supplied in the kit. Full ball bearings as well.

Cool! The Big Wig is one of my favorites!
I used to race one against Optimas, Boomerangs, Yokomo Dogfighters, etc.
even the occassional RC10 4wd conversion.
I ran it with a Kyosho LeMans 360PT (550-size) motor and 8.4V NiMH,
it was heavy and cumbersome, but on the smoother tracks I brought home a few trophies.

I built one for a customer of the hobby shop I worked at back in the day....nice looking car, and the rack & pinion steering was cool.

This one will be a shelf queen.
Assembled the You-G shocks. They did not come with an adjustment collar or bottom spring retainer.

They were listed as "option" parts in the instruction manual. Thanks. So, I will be using tamiya Hi cap damper spring collars and retainers as soon as they come in. Same 14mm diameter. I'm not entirely sold on them. They're nice and all, but I think the yellow CVA's look good on this buggy as well.
This has been a fun build so far, it will be a heavy pig when complete!

Got to love that techno gold motor peeking out the side. I never had one of these but a friend did. It was a cool buggy but he hated how boomerangs would smoke his much more expensive buggy

True, I built one of those back in the day too, I also preferred the Boomerang. Then again, it was lighter without the faux-scoop, exhaust pipes and other plastickery.

HI!.. I raced Bigwigs back in the day when I was a teenager. Didn't lose to many people back then. The Boomerang is not much lighter than the Bigwig. 1.65Kg VS. 1.75KG. A lot of that weight is from the 8.4Volt battery compared to the Boomerang's 7.2.
