Associated ESCs

So, maybe it's fluky or maybe no one else is running 3S on their Associated XP series brushless ESCs, but I thought I'd share my experience and perhaps save other people the headache.

Anywho, I have just fried the second SC900BL ESC in less than a month. The first one lasted about 10 or 11 packs in my stock Prolite running 6,600 mAh 30-60C 3S packs before it started doing some hinky stuff. AE sent me a replacement, which arrived yesterday. I had already put an SC1200 ESC in the Prolite, so this one went into my GT buggy electric conversion. Same 3,500 KV 550 can, but a lighter vehicle, 2WD, so should be easier on the unit. Yeah.....it lasted a whole 9 minutes before it just plain quit. Motor can was a whopping 124*F. Just to make sure the motor was OK, I plopped an Atomik Venom 80A ESC into the buggy and proceeded to finish out the pack with zero issues. Furthermore, the little Atomik ESC provided smoother low speed operation.

Per AE website, the SC900 is 3S compatible with a motor under 4,000 KV, so there should have been no problem. Two smoked ESCs say otherwise, though.

I'll be yanking the 1200 out of my Prolite and replacing with a Hobbywing/Beeman 150A on account of if the SC900 can't handle 3S, I'm betting it's just a matter of time on the 1200.

So let this be a warning to anyone running XP brushless ESCs; 3S might kill it, and they only have a 30day warranty. I hate to crap on my favorite manufacturer, but at this point, with a couple of cheap ESCs that take the power no problem, I'm going with XP ESCs are garbage.

I've had no problems running my brushless motors at temps up to 160 degrees when racing carpet oval. I don't think that the motor was the problem. Did you happen to check the temp of the esc?

That's what I'm saying; despite the rating, these ESCs don't seem to be able to take 3S.

The ESC measured 151* right after it let the smoke out.
