damn, that's amazing. i knew there was a method to bringing back a dead cell, but this is just...wow. where was it that you were reading about "zapping dead cells"? it's peaking my interest. pun intended.

interesting. do you think your results would of been different if you would of used a mig welder?

really depends on the mechanism to get rid of the crystal buildup, voltage or current. depending on the 'tap' setting on the mig welder, it's a voltage setting, so MAYBE because of the voltage setting, since most tap settings are above 12v. But a car battery can source hundreds of amps in a short period of time, much more than a mig welder transformer in the short 'zap'.

Coreless - Are You thinking of brushless?
When it comes to 1/10 scale, I´ve only seen coreless motors in servos?

The issue is how much to zap verse battery exploding, I'm sure higher amp and voltage would of broken down more crystals.
The same method was used with pushed voltage cells you basically zapped them to increase voltage with more internal crystal breakdowns.
Used to manually zap sleepy nicad single cells with a 7.2V charging cable to 12V car battery.
Now use an Apex zapper to rewaken in ads in hibernation... really gives them a proper kickstart.
Only works on nicads, dead niMH stay dead

Just did it on my 18v drill batteries. Wired 2 18v batteries in series for 40 volts and just tapped the leads a few times.
Worked a charm! Now I dont have to buy a new drill.

Sure was worth a shot, you tried and got some decent results. You never know til you try.

Cells that have hit 0V usually suffer very high self discharge rates too.
And their capacity drops with age also.
