So I need to pull the motor I have slightly back off the motor plate so the shaft doesnt hit the gear cover. My normal thought would be to just use washers but I dont know if that will end badly or not.
Any suggestions or just go with it?

There are "heatsinks" that fit between the motor and motor plate.
(I can't find a picture of one right now)
It is a round aluminum piece with veins milled into it, the idea being to allow airflow through the aluminum to aid in cooling.
I don't know if these are still available new, but I have seen them on eBay -
I think this would be perfect for your application.

if you have a old motor plate just cut it down to the size of the motor and install between the two .. i wouldnt do washers ... unless you find a big washer that the motors nose would pass throu and drill 2 holes for the bolts to pass throu

i thought those heatsinks were always for the outside but if it works, im in.
now to see if i can find one that will work on my velineon. gonna sacrifice my oldest one to the deanodizing process and cross my fingers i dont ruin it.
edit, another strc part gets added to my build. Really like those guys parts, they just seem to have made exactly what I need before I even need it

The heatsink mentioned is probably the best idea and I think would work on either side with it's added surface area to more quickly dissipate the heat. I think washers would even be fine as long as they were a snug fit to the motor screws and the screws were nice and tight in the motor. If you found something less rigged up, all the better though.

Trinity use to make the heat sink motor spacer. I have one on my worlds car from back in the day. Very rarely see them on e-bay.
