Shodog's HPI cup racer

I bought this HPI cup racer almost 2 years ago and had not done a thing on it. It has some upgrades like aluminum bodies for the dampers. A carbon fiber chassis and shock towers. Aluminum knuckles, axle shafts, arm mounts and upper camber links. It was set up for the 225mm bodies and upright front shock layout
After what basically became an almost complete disassembly, I've got it set up for 210mm wheelbase and lay down front shocks.
This in order to fit that sweet Porsche 934 body
Body and paint
I have never in my life paid $14 for a can of tamiya spray paint but it's the only paint closest to the color I want to spray the body
This is what I'm shooting for

That's hilarious, I only have 1 can of Tamiya Lexan paint--and there was much inner deliberation before I convinced myself I wanted to pay that much money for a tiny freakin' can of spray-paint--and it's that exact same color! I used it on this wing in the middle, I think you'll get pretty close to your desired color:

That looks like the color I'm going for. Thanks for posting the pic

Jim - looking forward to this one, how you can turn that "simple" lexan shell into a fine detailed body, with the rubberized bumper and all... hope you explain your technique afterwards
Cheers
Paul

I got a can of that for a vintage slot car body a year or so ago. Didn't realize the price until I got to check out!

When you gotta have it though... what can you do!

Shodog,
I used that colour to paint up a HPI AE86 body to match my old real car...

In the light, you'll find it about as close as you're going to get to your original colour, while still having some 'anodised aluminium' look....
Can't wait to see some 'after' pictures!

Now I know why this paint is $14. It looks freakin awesome. You can see reflections of the light switch on the wall an the different colors in my countertop

Looks great! I love Tamiya's paint. It comes out super smooth, but it stings to pay that much for a can. I pay $7 a can so if I want to use 3 colors on a body I'm dropping $21 + tax. It takes a bit away from the enjoyment until you get over the sticker shock. That color looks great on there though.

I was digging around in box this car came in and found the proper Exotek top deck. So I got it switched out.
A few days ago I was surfing the bay and came across this beauty. It was too nice to pass up.
It's new built with lots of hop ups. Exotek chassis, GPM and hot racing aluminum parts. I wanted a full option chassis for my shelfer and I couldn't have built this for cheaper than the Buy it now price.
Here are the twins, the runner and the shelfer

Those are nice little cars, I love the alloy bits. Which one is the runner and which is the shelfer? They both look like shelfers.

The chassis in front will be the runner. It has light scratching on the bottom.

I finished off the blue body and went a bit of a different direction with it. It was originally going to be a shelf queen body but I made a couple of mistakes on it so I don't mind using it as a runner.
Instead of using the Exotek chassis I used another stock build chassis to make this car a runner.
