LAZER ZX / ZXR Tub Chassis being re-released

Ok Guys,

As you are aware I was responsible for designing and testing the original tub chassis that was for sale in the 90’s for the Lazer ZX / ZXR. Due to unforeseen circumstances the mold got misplaced, so decided the time was right to have another one made. With luck the person whom I sold my original prototype chassis to approached me and sent it back to me so a mold was made using the original first chassis as the template. Well the first chassis has been made from the new mold and pictures are attached. Its almost ready up to the point of it just needing a file to tidy it up and then onto posting to me for my test hopefully this weekend. If it feels right then it will be made available by the latest Tuesday next week for all to buy.

Also as you can see in the pictures, the front shock tower which I am using has been upgraded to make stronger even though I have never broken one and that is the only thing on this car with exception of the tub that I haven’t broken yet.

Also my new design of Lipo tray which I have put a lot of thought into. You can use Zeppin lipo weights if you use cell holes like me, or if not you have also the option of using TRF511 Rude Tony brass central chassis plates which screw directly to the central CF plate so giving more than one option for weight distribution on the chassis. Ok you don’t have to have the central holes if you don’t want and can double side tape to the chassis.

The other item in the pictures is a little CF strip plate. This is my works in progress as I have designed a tensioner for the rear gearbox to save the rear belt from snapping. I will update with more pictures on how to when I am satisfied with it, but the idea is this bracket will be fitted behind the motor plate, a longish screw will go through into the gearbox (after a section has been cut away) and the bearings on the screw will be tensioning the belt. As I said it’s a work in progress and before I sell to all I need to get the design perfect first making your life that little bit easier.

Hope I make sense and hope you guys like 

It is a shame FL do not use a proper mould. One side always looks great but the flip side is as lumpy as porridge.

Yup im not selling just updating as i know there is a lot out there that wants one. Ok first tub is stunning inside and outside is rougher but it gets damaged so needs to be a bit rougher. A few issues need to be resolved so have sent back to fibrelyte for modifications and hope to get back Friday. Will update all when fitted.

Also you wont see anything on fibrelytes site yet as until I am satisfied with it they will not list it.

Ok update, first chassis went back for modifications. As the mold was based on my original chassis which was broken you have to accept that it may not be exact for the first made from the mold.

The front pivot rear block section on the chassis was a bit to far out and stopped full travel on the wishbones so asked for 1mm to be removed.

The side walls going around the back hit the gear cover so asked for one side to be 2mm shorter and both sides rounded off.

The side walls were too high compared to my original so asked to be milled down to 20mm in height from 23 as the shell doesnt fit correctly at the front due to the height of the sidewall.

In a few days its back and being refitted so soon will update you all.

The top looks good. The base however seems to have the usual FL lumpiness and creases. Fine for a basher but not ideal if you want a display shelfer. I think this is because they use a bag or cloth to make the "mould" on one side.

What´s the main reasons for putting a carbon tub under a full radio deck supported vehicle?
I know it looks nice, but that cant be the only reason?

It'll end up being stiffer and you don't have to mess with a lexan under tray.

To protect the esc and servo as that is why I designed it in the first place, as luck would have it I also sorted out flex, plus made the bodyshell last far longer and also meaning that no undertray replacement was needed either. It can handle some serious impacts as I run mine almost hitting the deck and can take it really well.
