Does anyone have any "Spec Class" racing with Traxxas vehicles in their areas going on? Something to pull in the entry level folks?
With all the support of 1-1 motorsports Traxxas has to be selling a ton of vehicles and the LHS is always doing work or selling parts for these vehicles.

well it didnt take lomg to the stock slash class to die a few years ago...

peeps hate spec classes because they love to blame their poor performance on something else ghan drivers skills, which is all what spec classes are about

LHS hate spec classes because they dont bring enough cash in the counter

spec classes always die too quick

Currently there is a stock spec Slash class in the traveling Short Course Showdown series run by Scotty Ernst:

It's ALWAYS close racing in these classes that I've observed.....

There's a few tracks in Maine that run a spec class for the traxxas slash. Up here in new brunswick all we have for that is a spec road course class that uses the traxxas rally and a carpet oval spec class that runs rj-speed legends cars. But i do agree, the spec classes don't seem to last more than a season or 2 here....

Does anyone ever run a Bandit class? This Tower Hobbies sale on them had me wondering about this as they are dirt cheap. How Spec are these classes when they are ran? Are they Bone Stock and are any of them ever Brushed instead of Brushless? I would think that close racing would be a plus.

It seems folks enjoy the continual upgrade process on these cars which would hamper a "Stock" class.

We have two tracks around that still run a spec slash class. I love that class. It's a blast trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out and running fenders.

This is furthering a weekend conversation with a neighbor of mine who just completed a new Losi buggy with a bunch of upgrades that he is soon to go race.

If you guys were to run a Spec Class for the Bandit what would your rules be? My current thoughts are to keep it as box stock as possible and if a substitution is allowed use Traxxas parts. (Example – Turnbuckles) Any changes would be for durability and ease of maintenance. Hardware could be Free.. etc.

Standard wear items should be swappable, I would never put stock screw pins back in because they are just going to bend again.

Really major pieces need to be stock, swapping out pins and turnbuckles should be a non-issue. Screws also, I hate Traxxas screws.

Our rules are that it has to be box stock using all the same electronics (XL-5 Esc and Titan 12T). The only allowed change is the radio if it came with an AM radio. Battery is personal preference.

Well I went ahead and bought a Bandit so I can play with this idea a little further with my group of friends.

I bought a set of ball bearings - 19.99
RPM front bumper
I think I will allow myself hardware changes. (screws, pins)
And maybe.. Traxxas brand turnbuckles

Stock wheels with either what comes on the car or the Traxxas step pin tires

Here is a shot of this little experiment so far prior to its first charge.

Awwwww... come on now... you don't have to make an elaborate excuse and invent a whole new class just because you want to get a traxxas....

Seriously though, I wish there was spec racing around here. I tried to get it going a few times, but there was no interest. Some people even seemed insulted just by the very idea of it. The attitude was pretty much the same when we tried to get a vintage class going.

Heck with spec class, I wish there was any type of track around here lol

I'd say the tires that come with the bandit, or find a tire that works great on your track and make that the spec tire.


The bandit can be raced in normal 2wd buggy pretty well. It just needs shocks and turnbuckles.

Bearing kit installed in the hubs only so far. Havent had time to pull the gearbox apart yet to install those but will prior to running the first time. RPM Bumper is installed as well.

The tires in the photo are not what came with it but ones I picked up at the Local Hobby store for the track I will run it on. As you can tell by the tread we wont be taking a push broom to the track surface.

It looks like a fun little buggy and seriously the layout like nearly everything else is derrived from an RC10. Execution and materials usage is of course different and why they can support the price.

While the current Losi and Associated buggies that are raced everywhere are very cool these days this one is better looking. I am not a fan of the Cab Forward tractor Assoc body nor of the lowrider on the Losi. Granted this is not a scale car but you can at least see that it derrives its proportions from 1-1 buggies.

This is my third new RC car ever. The first was a Tamiya Rough Rider in 1981 for $105 (I think) which there is a thread in the Tamiya forum on. In this past year I have picked up a herd of Gold Pans and a few Losi cars. Until then I had only ever owned the two RC cars.
