New to nitro and electric

Just started playing around with rc with my grand kids. My brother gave me a black tub rc10gt about a year ago that I've been trying to learn on. Thanks for all the info on this site, saved my butt a couple of times. 
The boys and I are having fun with the GT, two losi micro-t's and a t-maxx clone that was given to the 12 year old. I'm on now looking at how to tune the GT. I'm loving it, just wondering why it took me 54 years ( minus the years before rc ) to see how much fun it can be.
