I just purchased this for just under $80. It's dirty but looks to have a very low runtime. Supposedly he was the original owner. I cannot wait for it to get here. I'm gonna make it just like the one I raced back in '86 . Painted yellow w/ #17 on the side and penzoil stickers. I was a Rick Mears fan as a kid. This is a project I wanted to do for years but always saw either beat rc10's cheap or almost new that were just high priced. I think I have a good base to start with.

Cool, looks like a good start. As much as I hate seeing a classic pan drilled and cut, the switch mount job looks clean

Agreed, I will never remove that switch, just cause I don't wanna see behind it lol

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but my soon arring rc10 comes w/ the original wheels but they are painted black. How can I remove this and what are the chances of getting them white again?

For paint use Dot 4 brake fluid. If they're dyed black there's no going back.

I have had great success with brake fluid. I haven't seen a difference in dot 3 or 4 except 4 is more expensive
Let it soak for a few hours. Paint should curdle and can be wiped away

I have also had brake fluid not even touch the paint. Depends on the type of paint they used

Some will say castor super clean/purple power. I have not had good luck but I know others have

they are definitely painted, you can see where the wheel nuts scratched the paint off. Well brake fluid, then peroxiced and sun bath Thanks guys!

Well my new project arrived today! I'm super excited! The only issues are the front turn buckles are tweaked a hair, the tranny brace is missing, the slipper and spur are missing, and there is a small spot of anno missing from a battery leak. So Im looking at around $60 to restore how I wish. That includes a brace, slipper, body, wing, paint, liquid mask, decals and some bearings. Oh ya and some elbow gresse for the big strip cleaning.

Gonna be a great turnout when your done! Take your time.. Ive used easy off cleaner to remove paint off of white wheels. Brake fluid works as well, however I have only used it when removine paint from lexan bodies... Gets a little messy tho..

Orefield, huh? I'm originally from Allentown (South Whitehall Township); my parents still live there.

Several of my cars were purchased from Trains & Lanes back in the 80s .

Thanks ROH73, t&l is a great hobby shop. I've never seen one with such a big selection before. I just need to get in the back room. They have a bunch of vintage kits nib back there. One I know for sure is a kyosho tracker.

If you don't find a bunch of cool vintage stuff once you get in that back room, I take full responsibility for that.

Check the wear on the diff outdrives and the pins on the drive shafts, that should give you an indication of how much run time its had.

Ok so have the whole car stripped, plastics in peroxide in the sun yesterday. We had over a week with no rain till I need it. This morning cloudy as can be and no chance of sun , figes. Ordered a new body and wing mount , now just need diff rings outside diff hub and spring. Ugh hard to find
