Just a "what if" car, got the chassis and other pieces back today from the anodizer. Cut some frp shock towers, added gold shocks, front universals, and I have a ball diff to put in it when I have time. May even throw on a front stabilizer since they were set up for one, just needs wire.

Ah yes, the tires and wheels are temporary- I have tires but trying to source a correct era wheel.

I've got the exact same project going on. I have the lazer zxr wheels on mine but I'm still trying to determine if I'll be using aluminum shock towers or the fiber composite type.

Mine has the ball diff and the thorp 48 pitch conversion. I'll be making a different top plate which will fit the saddle packs and eliminate the rear servo cut out for the mechanical speed controller. Since the rear wheels are narrower, I used wider rear hubs to push them out a bit.

Nice one. I take it that you won't be running this one. I had one back in 1990 and tried to race it a bit. On a grass track it was okay but on a loose dirt track it was useless. They are fascinating though as not too many companies released FF buggies. If Kyosho designed it with the motor in front of the gearbox it would have been better for traction on acceleration.

Yeah, it's a shelfer. I had one bitd, it was "fun" but that was about it. My original one ended up as the front of a dual motor monster truck with ultima back half

In 1985/6 I saw a FWD 1/8 buggy, called (I think) MRC Rabbit. It used the same wheels as PB / Graupner.

Great idea and build. I also replaced the shocks, rims, chassis, shock tower and gearbox internals on my car.
I think the concept of FWD was a good one but also the motor should have gone upfront.

fyi in 85/86/87 FWD 8th scalers were ruling the 2WD scene so badly that some of the governing bodies split the 2wd category in 2, RWD and FWD... problems with the FWD cars is that they burn up the engines. FWD quickly ran out of fashion... so did 8th 2wd unfortunately.

The MRC rabbit was one in a list with many... every manufacturer had a FWD 8th scaler in their lineup.

I have a shelfer Maxxum that is new built and never run

I am going to put the sway bar kit on it which is now on the way

One thing that bugs me about it is it sits so high and I can't figure out how to get it to sit lower with the standard shocks, can you remove the collar alltogether or get shorter collars for the top of the spring?

Maybe I could put gold shocks on it along with the sway bars to make it a Turbo Maxxum

Will the standard body still fit with the rear wing? Is that the same wing mount as an Optima Mid?

The wing mount is optima mid, and it's install is covered in the manual so I am thinking it will fit with the stock body but haven't cut my TBG up yet to see.

As far as ride height, the rear sits high on this one but not by much. The gold front springs hold the weight of the forward mounted battery and motor well- I have the collars preloaded due to the rear being high. I think if I could locate some lighter rear springs I could use the collars as ride height adjustments as they are supposed to be lol.

Optima wheels are crazy pricy right now. I think optima mid white would be my choice but I refuse to pay what they go for. Ill come up with something. It may end up with Ultima wheels

Thanks for the components- the color was not my idea but I was running a batch and at the last minute decided to have the Maxxum done- I'm glad I did!

Got a few little things knocked out today and mounted some electronics. I was going to attempt to build a trans brace for the left side as I am missing the stock one but it seems very rigid already. Not sure if I will leave it or whip up something. Still need a few bits- a counter gear, bumper, and set of rear arms (couple cracks in mine) and it will be ready to....sit quietly on a shelf

looking good. I'm wanting to get one of these some day.

Don't know how heavy of shelf duty it will take without that brace though

There´s a German Ebay seller who sells one piece copies of the original Turbo Optima 2.0 wheels.
Only in white though and the surface is not as smooth as the originals, more like the Optima Mid wheels.

I just realized I had not updated this. I had to get rid of the 2.2's. It just wasn't right. I did get a set of those killer one piece white turbo optima wheels from Dennis, but for now she is wearing some used up wheels and tires. Need to decide what tires would fit her personality.

I left the wing clear, since the real Maxxum didn't have one I feel the clear is "OK"
Oh, and she still needs a bumper, although in racing it would have likely been in the way
There is just something about Kyosho's decals that leave me laughing. The run on words are hilarious but they make the car. "Radio controlled electric powered racing buggy" lol.
