Gear Cover

So after looking on several sites, it seems like most gear covers for the rc10 t4 / b4 / sc10 can work on each other. I've also seen that while only using 1 screw, you can still mount a b4 gear cover on the old rc10.

My question now is why couldnt this gear cover work.

http://www.integy.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=7268&p_catid=256#.UYqy0Rw4t5B

Its for the SC10 but by the normal logic so far, it should work on the b4/t4 too Which means it should work on the rc10.

Can anyone else see why it couldnt mount or is the info there incorrect and it should include b4/t4.

I dont really know the sc10 mounting holes at all so could anyone else chime in?

No reason that I can think of why it wouldn't work. I'm using a B4 cover on mine (well its the modified one with the SCAB slipper on it)

cover arrived today.

it does fit on to the motor plate with only 1 screw. As to fit, it has very little room to play. Its almost touching the outdrives and sits slightly over one of the screw holes for the motor plate so you will have to back it out slightly.

So would you say it works, I'm thinking of getting one.

I have been using the RPM B4/T4 version. I have found if you screw in the top and then twist it up just a bit, you can get a hole drilled and tapped for the bottom. It is really close but seems to work. I have done this on 3 runners so far.

Did a test fit on both the stealth and 6 gear.

It fits, barely. Just a warning but it maybe got 1mm clearance of the outdrives.

Your gonna have to run a smaller spur gear too. I have an 83t on and its barely got room for it.

As to drilling a 2nd hole, I dont see it happening. It wouldnt be fully enclosed if you did.

Ok, I was thinking at first, that I would be putting it on my 10t, it has a 87 spur, but sounds like it'll be better off on my 10, with 81t spur.

Ok, Here are some pictures from 3 of my runners. You can see how close the second hole is to the edge, but so far is working fine, and yes it does fully enclose the gears. Two of these, the blue and the black, I race weekly with against their newer brothers. The only other thing I just thought about is that these covers will not work if you have not replaced your topshaft. The original stealth slipper is too tall for these gear covers. You can also see a range of spur and pinion gears fit in these covers with no rubbing.

honestly, If i felt like doing that much work, Id rather just buy a cover from TBG and just cut to fit. plus i dont want to ruin a good motor plate with an unneeded hole.

I figured out this little trick after I had gotten that blue litespeed heatsink motor plate off of ebay. It wasn't until after I got it that I saw some previous owner had cut off that little bit at the bottom where the normal second hole is. Adding the second hole worked so well, I just went with it for a couple of other RC10/Ts I built up.

The RPM covers also stick out far enough for the B4 top shaft which seems longer than stock. I don't have any experience with the TBG covers and if they work when you have changed out the top shaft.

Understandable about not wanting to drill a hole, I would never do it to a NIP or a lite gold plate....

I have a few TBG cover's, they will not fit my 10T at all, I have the rpm tranny in it, and no matter where its clocked, it rub's on the spur. Its like its to shallow. I have a couple of stock ones that fit better.

just a few more notes. It doesnt have very much clearance for a thick slipper. I dont think anything beyond the basic b4 slipper will fit. The 6 gear and stealth ones do fit but there is very little free room.

another note is im not sure which metal its using. my aluminum polish has no effect so maybe stainless steel. It has the machined look to it but i cant get it to polish. I'll have to try sand paper or something other than a polishing cream on it.
