Hello everyone , my first post on the website so I figured Id start off with an odd one for you all . I recently got a butt load of stuff from a neighbor and it had two sprint car chassis in it ( mainly why I bought the lot ) . I was wondering if these are just some home made jobs or are they old production chassis from back in the sprint car conversion craze . Oh well , let the guessing games begin . Oh and I only took a pic of the one chassis because it was the most together ( typical RC10 suspention bolted to it ) but the other is exactly the same as this one ....

Sorry I can't help mate as I am from across the pond you see and don't know these cars to well. But I have always enjoyed the sprint car conversions. Do they drift like the real sprint cars do?

Nice front wheel covers, are they green anodised alloy? If you have a set and want to part with them give me a shout

one of the guys over on clodtalk was selling a sprint chassis earlier this year that looked just like the one you have. i wish i could've bought it.

anyway, thinking back, i believe he called it a k&s sprint car chassis. not positive, though. doug might know for sure.

i bought one just like that 15+ years ago mine was a b&t sprinter. i still have the remains of it.

It was definitely not a mass market car. Probably a cage brazed up by a local racer for other local racers. There were hand-made fabricators like that all over the country at one point in RC history. This looks like one of those small market hand-mades. I would be surprised if there were more than 10-20 of these made, too. Many times, racers would try to make piano wire cages for themselves instead of buying a BBT or Ascot cage, then wind up making a few more for friends if the cars worked. In reality, as long as it wasn't fragile or 8 pounds, they generally worked ok having RC10 parts bolted to them.

Is it rare? Yes. There probably aren't many like it anywhere else.
Is it valuable? Only to the owner and probably to the original builder.
Should you restore it? Oh, most definitely. Then post it in the vintage section on DirtOval.com.
Should you race it? Not if you want to compete and win anywhere. It's vintage, baby!


That original body is Premier/Twister, and virtually impossible to find. I've been looking for 9 years with no luck. Check with McAllister Racing for something that would fit and look good on a vintage resto. A vintage replica wing could be easily hand-made with a bench brake and a sheet of .030" Lexan, as would the cockpit shroud. All of the parts appear to be common RC10 with Kyosho Gold shocks. Rear wheels to match those fronts might be a tough find, but I'm sure there is a full set of something period-correct out there waiting for this project.

Generally, no. Sometimes on a loose dirt track they can float in a drift sideways through the corner, but generally, it's not the fastest way around the track or the easiest to drive.

there was a guy i used to race with back in the day that had his edm gold pan set-up so sweet. i used to love being a corner marshal for whatever heat/main he was in. he'd come through the corners with the front tires pointed to the right, and the ass end hangin' out. and he was always fast, and never out of control. hell, i'm smiling just thinking about it.

OMG!!! Thanks everyone . It was killing me not knowing what these things were . As far as restoring them , that's a definate YES as it was the main reason I bought everything was for these chassis ( three boxes of stuff that took up most of my trunk for $50 ) . I kind of remeber if not these something that looked a lot like them from back in the day but as allready mentioned it wasn't uncommon for people to make up their own . Plus I could just be remebering the 1/4 scale monsters from back then too . Though being that there is two of them , it made me think that they may have been one of the production chassis . I'm actualy tossing around trying to set up a solid rear axel to make one as close to scale as I can get it but more than likely I probobly just bolt another RC10 rear end to it ( I got three working stealth trannies and the old belt drive conversion in great shape that I found in one of the boxes ) , besides Im not tearing apart my Mounty just to get a scale rear end for a sprinter . Holy poop I cant believe the stuff Im finding in these boxes ( typical kid in a candy store fealing ) .

Dr. Robotnik - I do have a full set of those green ( ewww ) aluminum rims that was in with this recent find in pritty good shape . Though as I just got everything a few days ago I'm not real sure what I'm willing to part with yet . The only bad thing Ive seen on those rims so far is one of the front rims has a hair-line circular scratch , kind of like some one tried to use a socket on the nut and left a scratch allmost all the way around the rim but other than that they look like they just came out of the package . And as allready mentioned that the old RC10 conversions didn't realy drift like their full scale brothers , though I mainly think its because of it being independant suspention . I would allmost bet if I make one of these a solid rear axel it would probobly slide around like the real thing .

Oh well , thanks again for the help guys and or gals (whichever case applys , if not both ) and thanks for the welcome to the website . Ill keep you all updated on the restoration of the RC10 version sprinter though as I just bought a PS3 too I'm going to be kind of short for funding for a little *coughlongcough* while so it may be a bit before I can do too much to them ....

Mine is definately homemade, as there are plenty of little flaws here and there, but I love it nonetheless!

And I, like you, have a ways to go, before it is completed.

No Problem Floyd it sounds like you are going to have fun sorting through all that stuff. Just let me know whenever you decide.

I'd really like to know if they could be set up to drift and then I might be interested in getting one. I am sure you could, I mean how do they get those touring cars to drift nowadays?

I'm a newbie to the RC10 scene, although I have a NIB Dual sport TC waiting to be built
Couldn't source an original shell in UK, got last one it appears from Tower which was Mercedes

I do however have a Tamiya TT-01 Drift spec, so as to drifting, basically harder suspension, locked diffs and drfit tyres, either solid ABS all in one wheels, or Tamia and Yokomo do hard rubber ones. Then they drift everywhere
