I went off the deep end with an HPI 5B

Today it showed up in the mail. I have been watching the videos with baited breath and this buggy is just too killer to pass up. I bought this one off of ePay and it's loaded with upgrades. I tried to run it on the street in front of my house but it's just too big and noisy so i took it out by the railroad tracks for some fun.
you just don't get a sense of how large these are until you have some perspective so here are a couple of shots. here is one with my Losi LXXT okay not really it's a micro T
And here is one next to an RC10

Nice pics. It looks like a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the release of the Baja SS I have on order.

The thing is insane. In the video you can see it shooting a rooster plume of dirt off the tires. Now keep in mind I have a T-maxx and a mugen 1/8 scale buggy so I'm not newbis to off gas cars but this thing rocks. you really need a big space to run it in so i can't wait to take it to the beach or some dry river beds.

The baja came with a bunch of extra including a set of paddles.

The HPI buggy looks promising. Seen it run at my LHS and its impressive. They do make Onroad tires for it, as well as paddles. Trouble is its SOOO big its hard to run on most normal tracks.
That said, I am fortunate to have a REALLY nice onroad track a short ways from my house.
Initially they designed the track for 1/5th scale onroad, and its been host to the 1/5 scale nationals. They also host 1/10th and 1/18th scale races through one of the local racing associations. I would really like to one day get a 5th scale.

so far they have been holding up pretty well. I have about 5 runs on the rears. $31.99 is pretty expensive but really they are only about $10 more than a quality 2.2 inch tire.
I have to say ruinning this thing is a blast. I brought it to work to run on my lunch hour and there was a crwod forming. I bet at least of those guys are going to get one.

Jim, I've just watched the video and I must say I was first stroken by the jig-saw noise, it really does it, huh? Nice car! So, let us all know if you already found one of those tricky Tecnacraft rim set that would fit that giant Ultima?

By found, do you mean already pulled them from his garage?

This is the video that hooked me. It was just too awesome jumping around those dunes
As for tecnacrafts, as sweet as aluminum wheels would look on this buggy, I just don't think I could run them. Yesterday I tagged a rock with the rear wheel and pulled one of the bead lock screws through the plastic beadlock. I would be heart broken if I did this to an aluminum wheel.
As for the noise, visualize this, take a beefy chainsaw at full throttle and run around your neighborhood with it. Thats what the 5B sounds like.
