tires for early rims - slotted or "jelly bean" style

Post by tommykart »

trying to find out if any tires are available for these rims. They came on the 1984 original goldpan i bought mine in 1986. Looking for a replacement s. Can any one tell me what size tire i should be looking for? i read that 2.0 for back and 2.1 front but i think that was for later rc10.

1.9 front, 1.6 rears. ebay is about the only place unless you know of a local hobby shop that's been in business for years.

you can make tamiya hornet rear tires work. they're still readily accessible.

Yeah, I bought a set of the Hornet tires and while they can be made to wok, I don't know about running them at any speed - for display it's OK although far from orig.

If you're looking for tires that you can run then you're better off switching to modern 2.2" rims instead of using the original Jellybeans.

Either the JC Racing (not JConcepts) wheels from the UK or the Thunder Tiger Phoenix BX Rears with Duratrax Evader BX fronts.

Go for the JCRacing wheels. When you order off the website it is for all 4 wheels. While waiting for my JCRacing wheels, I ended up breaking two of my orginal style 3 spoke wheels. I have even boiled them to try to make them less brittle. They just don't seem to hold up like they did back in the day.

yep that's what i ended up doing RC Mod in midlothian had just got it all in.... another RC10 enthusiast had request the same parts to do his buggy

front
3/16 x 3/8 ball bearing
thunder tiger PD8979 front wheel,AT-10
front tire Team associated 2.2" four rib proline m-2 compound no 6878

note: had to run the rims inside out for clearance but looks fine plus it gives a wider front stance

Rear
thunder tiger PD8982 rear wheel,AT-10
proline calibar 2.2" M4 (super soft) off road buggy tire

note; used dremel with cone shaped stone to make the wheel fit over the hub on the stub axle and seat on the drive pin, and i made an aluminum can shim to make up the difference for the slightly smaller diameter axle to fit more snug ( 1 wrap thick )
