Post by mrlexan »

This is gonna be a resto project for me. Hopefully it is not too bad of condition, for the price, I think it will be a good starting point. What do you guys think?

Thanks, but I am box art kinda guy as this is the only B2 I will have. I usually only do hopups on a second one.... would need to find one first or even if I would decide to go that route.

UPDATE: Almost done... all I need is a front bulkhead and a nose plate and it will be done. They are on their way. I will post some pics of the completed buggy (minus body.... it is in storage).

Enjoy!

Jay it looks like you have a B3 rear skid plate and arm mounts on your B2 resto. A B2 rear plate doesn't get wider towards the rear and the arm mounts use 4-40 fhs instead of 5-40 fhs.

Nice catch... I'll have to check my parts and manuals. I might have missed those.

I've found that's a huge problem with B2's...most people did the B3 conversion, either in whole... or just part... Super hard to find a nice virgin. And to try to figure out what ebay sellers are really selling... I actually dug up an RCCA that points out all the changes in the B2 to B3 conversion, which is a huge help. I'm sorry, I don't have a scanner but I can type it in verbatim... :| I might not until I find the right one for myself though... The front wheels are a huge issue, since they were probably glued, run, and then canned... :(

Sorry, nice start, Jay!

That is exactly what I found after comparing the manual to what I actually had (won from the listing). It looks like he did the conversion as most of the parts didn't match. The plate was an overlook... I have the correct plate, but it looks like when it went through the stamping process for the two holes in the back it wasn't lined up properly, so it is not perfect...... I'll likely change it back.

Instead of a scan, just take a pic of it with a digital camera. Just make sure not to hold it directly above if you are using a flash.

What are you going to do about a body? Get one of those sport ones if they ever come into stock at tower? Wish they kept making the team body it looks way better....

What i've found different on the B2 compared to B3 apart from the obvious shock tower, arms and T2 steering/hub carriers and stuff mentioned here already.

Front kickup plate - B2 mounts it with 4-40 screws, B3 uses 6-32 with phillips drive
Front bulkhead brace - B2 has no provisions for mounting a swaybar
Chassis - missing holes for mounting rear swaybar, did they give you a whole chassis with a conversion kit just to correct this?

Also the bearings are steel shielded on the B2 but i guess that only matters for the front wheels.
