I decided to experiment with some extra parts I had left over from a Scorpion in order to make a runner. I decided to see if I could mate a modern tranny with the Scorpions chassis rails. Here is what I discovered.

1. The rear T plate of a TRF201 lines up perfectly with the Scorpions chassis rails.



2. Top view : As you can see, you can use the TRF201's A arms and CVDs.



3. For the rear suspension mount, you can use the TRF201s, some new holes will need to be drilled




4. Or you can use the Scorpions own suspension tower (i have a fibreglass taller version here) To mount to chassis I am using the rear suspension holder of an M06 Tamiya. Againg some new holes will have to be drilled.



The negatives: will have to come up with a mount spot for rear up rights (camber links) using Tamiyas suspension arms. With Tamiya's tplate the tranny as a whole sits further forward, interfering with the Scorpions tub. Also the stock Scorpion rear suspension arms can not be used, the angle is too steep for the CVDs.

Since my goal was to build a Scorpion and not a Tomahawk, it looks like I will need to have a longer T-plate fabricated..

Nice project! When you prolong the t-plate what are you planning to use for mounting the CRP-shock tower? Or is it the mounted screwed on the t-plate?

When I built my ghostrider I was looking at using a stealth tranny for this chassis. I think it would have worked, but I went with the turbo-glide from trackmaster in the end.

I've put stealth in my ultima, and a B4 tranny on my buddy's ultima.

The CRP shock tower will mount to the shock tower mount from a Tamiya M06 Pro and that will mount to the T plate.

I believe I will use original trailing arms, this way I will not have to worry about the upright camber links, and stay closer to original.

I hope the guy in Germany still makes the reproduction tubs. I have not heard from him yet. Otherwise I will have to use the Team Bluegrove lexan for this project.

I saw someone used a stealth on a scorpion a few years back. I was thinking of doing the same. Then I figured, it would be best to use a tranny that has parts readily available.

Yep, that's why we picked the B4 tranny for my buddy's ultima

Because I own a TRF201

Here is a mock up of my my new t-plate in balsa. Combined the Scorpions with the TRF201 and added 12 mm of length to match original wheel base. Now I need to go to the machinist. I'm contemplating doing it in carbon, since I have a sheet at home.







What I need to find are the short and tall rear suspension stand offs. I don't want to cannibalize my shelf queen.

You should just use stiff cardboard, like from a cereal box, for mock-ups...*much* easier to work with and no splintering. A scissors, pencil & ruler and you're good to go. That's what I used to fabricate my own carbon fiber shock towers and Kydex bumpers.

1: I didn't know it would fit at the time I built mine
2: I didn't have one
3: I didn't know my buddy back then either

I don't own an RC10.. Does it drop in without any need for fabricating parts?

I don’t think so; I have never experience that any chassis part would be a perfect match, you always have to adjust and making adapters…

In both cases you need to modify stuff and mix other parts in. Fun, isn't it
