Gene Husting's Trophy Girl Car

I've been pretty bored tonight and been thinking about doing my first shelf queen replica car. Not sure if it will happen soon or down the road, but if I do I would like to replicate Gene's trophy girl car...or at least something close to it. The car itself look to be a early RC10 with all the parts dyed black. Add some aluminum wheel covers and most of it's done. I'm sure there are a few things to do, but the car itself doesn't seem like the big part of the build, the body looks to be the challenge.

I'd like to begin a list of things that need to be done for this replica car. If people could add to the list as time goes on, I hope that this could be a reference for future replicas.

June 11, 2013 (will change the date when updated next)
-RC10 cadillac
-dye towers black
-dye all nylon parts black (except white servo savers, white rod end on rear shocks)
-no nose tubes
-no sway bar
-ASC 6192 Headlights and Knock Offs "Chrome"
-RPS aluminum wheel covers
-gold springs
-no spring clamps
-no plastic rings used on the shock caps
-rear wing tubes look to be polished
-front shock hardware I believe is as follows; locknut, reversed shock bushing, washer, and then finished with another locknut (locknut and washers are painted)
-rear shock hardware is a washer and nut both painted black, reversed shock bushing, washer and then locknut.
-no body post
-trans brace is orientated where the post would be furthest away from the rear tower
-both interior and cage made from Styrene
-small wing
-white wing buttons

For now don't do as I do, do as I say! :D

GREAT idea; I was wondering what I was going to do with all of those parts that are died black!!!!

I've pretty much got everything to do this one with too!

Thanks for the idea!

Very cool idea, are you going to paint the body yourself?

Very cool car, one of my personal all time favorite adds. The car is sweet but the girl is even sweeter! I wish I could replicate her! Or some thing!

What's that Ed, Mike built a cage for the girl?

I will look for the thread tonight an post a link so it can easily be referenced from here. I remember seeing that, I sure it has some great info.

wow, you're quick! So I've seen everything from Gene and Curtis Husting and Jay's car so who is it? I don't want to have the wrong name associated with it :?

Jay's standing beside it in the ad with the trophy girl but I would call it Gene's since he owned Associated ;)

Good point!

Hey, sorry we couldn't get together in Halifax! I've moved to Alberta a couple months ago. Say hi to the guys into Mighty Small Cars for me if you go there. I didn't get to say good bye, maybe I should email them. I figured they would figure it out when I didn't show up past a few weeks.

I've probably looked at that ad thousands of times over the years and never noticed there were no nose tubes on the car till you mentioned it, maybe I was just staring at the girl instead.....

No wonder Jay was so happy. He probably didn't even notice that trophy.

Yep a awesome add from AE.

Just love it. :D :D

One day I will get a shed and have heaps of old school posters around it.

I'm tempted to recreate the cage myself. I want it to be exact. Mike's is sweet, but the original cage used different diameter rods for the vertical beams than the horizontal beams. Also, the cross brace behind the seat goes from upper corners down to the chassis. I also want to include the black lexan/plastic? that comes down from the cage to the chassis.

The bad thing is that I've never bent aluminum or steel rods and haven't welded anything either  :? :D

I know Mike used steel rods, but since I've never welded anything I figured I could use aluminum rods and solder them. I could be sounding like a complete ass right now. I'm open for suggestions, tools to use, etc, etc
