Removing Stripped Screws from idler?

Hello,

Does anyone have any special way of getting those tiny screws out of the idler gear (in a 6 gear transmission) once they are stripped? The allen wrench seem to be good and sharp, it worked fine on the other gear, so it is the screws that are the problem.

I have 2 of the screws partially out,so just leaving it alone isn't really an option.

Thanks.

What are you trying to do with the idlers?

Well, keep in mind that for $5 you can buy new ones. Here's the problem, once you get the stripped screws out then you'll need to source replacement hardware and that will likely be more than new idlers with the hardware and a new Allen. Just my $.02

Just Bought a set yesterday to hang on the wall, so they seem to still be out there 8)

If your trying to remove bearings, you can cut the gear or drill off the tiny screw heads

I'd normally say slot it with a dremel and then use a micro screw driver to back it out, but since it's so small on the idler, clean it out real good and use Jet to glue the allen key into the screw. Once out, use a cutoff wheel to cut the end off your allen key to get rid of the rounded tip.

I was thinking that the black idlers are becoming hard to get. I got this off ebay and was replacing the brushings with ball bearings. Your right, i can't imagine I am going to be able to find replacement screws.

What I wanted to go is cut a slot in them to use a flat screwdriver to unscrew them, bit I can't imagine what I could use to cut such a small slot.

I will try the glue idea.

Thanks

Sometimes just having the right tool :) is all you need. Picked up a couple of these in the closeout bin at my lhs. It allows you to put pressure directly down so the allen screw isn't contacted at an angle which usually causes the wrench to strip the screw or even round off the allen wrench.

Well, i got them out.

I heated them up with a soldering iron. You could see the ca glue boiling out. Then I was able to un screw them, even with the stripped screws.

Thanks guys.
