JRX-2 mid-motor oval racer

Post by dldiaz »

This is a converted JRX-2 that I have had for several years (I got it off eBay, years ago).
- The transmission is reversed (for mid-motor arrangement), and the motor-plate has been switched back to the right-hand side (so it does not require reverse rotation motor). The rear shock tower is mounted at the very back, with shocks now behind the a-arms.
- The front uses RPM arms, mounted backwards; and pan-car steering setup with a mini servo. The front shock tower is lowered/cross-braced, with the shock ends bolted directly to the caster blocks (shocks in front and camber links behind the caster block with one long bolt).
- Electronics include a Novak XXL receiver, Novak GTX speed control, Novak 45-turn crawler motor with 30/84 gearing (runs all day on a 2300mAh battery), and a Futaba S9601 mini servo.
- Losi rims (orange) with foam tires.
- I forget the make of the body (I have one other Jerk with the same body).

This setup handles really well on pavement, I have never had the chance to run it on a real oval track.

Really like this different arrangement. Very nicely done.

Need brighter pics higher resolution. Nice craftsmanship.
Glad to be back in this hobby so many many years later. To see new things and to recollect on ALL cool vintage models!
As well as to BUILD :

Very nice! This reminds me a lot of the buggies that I used to race with years ago on carpet oval.

Sorry about the lame pics - iPhone is all I have...

Yes, this was for carpet racing - before the carpet track shut down, we used to run around at like half-throttle just dicing with eachother for fun!

I thought about having a 45-minute ELECTRIC race, as kind of a joke to see who could make the run time... Hence the crawler motor in this thing.

But, alas, no carpet racing in South Texas anymore.

Nice job Daniel.

I used the same setup when there was a carpet oval track in my area. On mine, I had to modify the rear bulkhead to correct the rear toe in and anti-squat. Did you have to do the same?

Regards,
Roger

The rear bulkhead was sawed apart - the upper portion remains bolted to the gearbox and the rear shock tower is still bolted to this upper portion of the bulkhead ((the whole assembly now faces rearward)); camber links have been reversed on both the rear bulkhead and the rear axle carriers (compared to stock JRX-2).

The BOTTOM of the rear bulkhead is trimmed down to only the part that supports the hinge pins (i.e. - the battery cup is shaved off), this part remains bolted onto the chassis in the stock location.
So both hinge pin supports are in their original locations; you can still change toe and anti-squat as on any other a-arm JRX-2...

The chassis was also shortened a bit at the very back, where the lower curve of the stock motor plate used to bolt onto the chassis.
