Fulfilling my TRX-1 Fetish :D

Howdy yall,

there's something about some cars in particular that appeal differently to some of us - one of the cars that turns me on like crazy is the TRX-1, and like most of us here I do get excited by a mint RC10, but somehow I get really aroused by a good-looking TRX-1.

Not sure why, really... maybe because it was the anti-RC10, the underdog that actually could outperform the topdog, or simply because it was short-lived and one of the last single-deck hi-performance 2WD, or because the body looked, let's say, peculiar... I dunno. But I love them :) And here's one I just received a few days ago:

Image

I do have to say I was anticipating it highly, as it was sold as "new". It's a car I had seen a few months back on another forum from the one where he was asking how much it was worth, without a picture, but I recalled it being in top-shape (no, it wasn't on rc10talk  )... so I made an offer via PM, without asking for other pics, and the seller accepted.

Well, you guessed it, the car isn't new... but it's in darn good shape still 8)

Image

shame about this handful of scratches on the chassis and the chipped rear rim...

Image

I do have a nip chassis and nip rears, so that might be fixed at some point 8) The body is ok, although the paint job could sure have been better!

Image

Again, repros are available, plus I have a couple of nip original bodies and sticker sheets, again, fetishes eat you from inside for years

The person who built this did a few oddities too... for instance he reversed the front body mount, added M3 screws and nuts on the front bulkhead (stripped already, or just risk-management?) and some of the hardware simply is non-sensical :?

Image

The battery box had to suffer lightening insults, but oh well. The retainer bar is missing too, oh well #2. I think I might have some nip ones

Image

A zoom on the transmission. I can't believe AE didn't take Traxxas to court when this was released! Proof that the car wasn't run much - it has the plastic outdrives  and that M3 screw holding the transmission cover adds style to that shot

Image

Funny how the TRX-1 really gives me chills in the spine... when you have one in hand, it really feel "special" and it has a more premium feel than a graphite rc10, to me at least. This is the "worlds" version with the hard-ano'ed shock bodies. One heck of a good looking car if you ask me (but then again I'm biased  )

Image

Very happy to own this one, although it could have been even better if it were truly new but I still consider myself lucky 8)

To close it off, a couple of family shots with the Black Widow runner - not too often you see two TRX-1's together

With a bit of TLC it'll be "Best In Show"

Paul I too share your thoughts and feelings with the TRX-1. I love this model and both your cars are ACE in my book!

There have been times when I have considered selling mine (out of desperation) but hot damn, I'm so glad I still own it!

Thanks a bunch for not just sharing your awesome examples but for also sharing your passion!

First of all congratulations on getting another one of these awesome buggies. 8) The TRX-1 has always been one of my favorite buggies as well. You should be able to clean it up and make it look almost new. When my Blue Eagle-LS and LS-II arrived they were in about the same condition. I was later able to restore them to almost new condition. Anyways, thanks for sharing the pictures it almost makes me want to build my NIB kit :).

That looks pretty nice! Great car, thanks for sharing the pics. And to think I sold mine. :( Can't remember who got it, was it you Paul? It was in pretty tidy shape if I recall correctly.

That looks amazing, both of them!

I really like how incredibly simple these cars look. One day, seriously one day I will have one :D

Thanks for the kind comments yall  I certainly feel lucky to own a few of them.

Here's another one of mine as it was featured on www.overrc.com - the first TRX1 that I bought, I actually traded a new built JRT for this one... It's been in the restoration pipeline for ages!!! Has hydra, weird RC10T front shock tower and a few other things, but it's shelf-queen material if cleaned up :)

Yes, the TRX1 sure is a special car to me... the mix of non-woven graphite chassis, white plastics, schumacher-style sliders, best-in-class (for the day) shocks, simple mechanics and peculiar body, all this coming from a company that only had done plastastic entry-level RTR's before is what makes it so appealing!

Gary, I think I might have bought one from you ages ago... it was all dyed orange/red, right? Well, that's the one I used as the base for myBlack Widow (that other one on the pics). The chassis was ok and I kept it, but the only other parts I ended up keeping were the transmission case, steering bellcranks and wheels/tires (those on the pics ATM). The rest all went to the "next step is trash can" box as they were so worn out and full of cracks and stripped threads everywhere

Thanks for the FB guys :)

Paul very nice cars.

I was racing an RC10 and a Losi LXT when I heard of the new Traxxas car being released. One of the local guys ended up buying one so I got a chance to see it in person. I was impressed with the car so much, I convinced my parents to get one for me. I raced that car often and actually did very well with it. Never had any maintenence problems and the only thing I broke on the car was a steering knuckle at a big race in Sulfur, LA. The only thing I did not care for was the slipper, with the small little pegs.

I have some pics of the car back in the day but I have to find them. My dad ended up giving all of our stuff away to a father and son about 6 years ago including the TRX-1. I wish I still had the car and maybe one day I will pick up another one. Every once in a while I start looking at them, but the ones in really good shape are few and far between.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Jake :) Yes, the slipper isn't the finest in the business... I've tried old parts, I've tried new parts, and still on my runner the tuning window is like 1/10th of a turn from slipping endlessly to locked. Not sure what to do... I think I need an A&L slipper on this baby but I was trying to keep it as stock as possible! There aren't many TRX-1's for sale on the market, and the nicer ones fetch stupid prices with the white plastics... Just like an RC10, really!!!

Take care,
Paul
