Hi fellow vintage radio nutters.
I have a 1024 handset which I would like to convert over to 2.4 spread spektrum. I have plenty of Spektrum receivers and wanted to find out if there's a way to use a Spektrum module for this radio?

I converted my PCM 1024 radio to 2.4 thanks to drbelleville, and it works great.
All you need is a Spektrum
SM1000 transmitter module for Futaba/Hitec and an
SR3000 receiver. You can also get an
SPM1004 combo with both the module and receiver. I also think you can use the SR3001 receivers with the SM1000 module, but I'm not 100% sure. I also think it would be possible to use the SM1001 module for Futaba/Hitec, but again I'm not 100% sure.
Hope this helps.

That's great news, thank you for your help on this Dave.
Are these units still for sale at retail or will I need to look for a used unit?

I'm not sure about the availability of new modules or receivers. When I was looking for them last year, I found a few U.S. places online that had them listed as either
out of stock or
discontinued. I found my used ones on ebay for about half the price of new ones. You can usually find the receivers used for $25-40.
You can also use the
Losi MRX3000 receivers. I use one in my crawler with the 1024 radio.

Does this work with the AM version of this radio too? After seeing these threads, I really want to show up at the track with a 20+ year old radio, lol!!

For the non module based radios you can get a DIY 2.4 hack unit. Most of the major Chinese manufactures have these units. The one that seems to work the best the the FR Sky unit from Hobby King. It has a simple 3 wire hook up and is not very expensive. I am looking at doing this conversion to a JR radio that I have.
