Never tried anodizing but from what I understand there's methods for doing multi-color patterns and even stencil images using vinyl tape or even nail-polish to mask off the areas you don't want colored.
Paintballers use it to give their markers a camo or acid-wash pattern.

reminds me of one of my satajet nr2000 spray guns.
