Nascar Racer - RC Boat Record Holder

I never knew NASCAR's Martin Truex Jr was into rc boats. I saw this on USAToday listing what NASCAR Driver will do with their weekend off...

"Martin Truex Jr. will be near the water, too. But he'll be in Hunstville, Ala., attempting to set world speed records with his radio-controlled boat. He said he owned three world records, all on oval courses, in International Model Power Boat Association events."

"I'm going for three new oval records," he said. "One I already have and want to lower it because I know I can. I'm going to try to go for a straight-line record, which is straightaway speed. The record I'm going for in that is with a little 3.5cc engine and it's 103 mph. I'm trying to go at least 105."

This fast electric holds the record at I believe 140mph here is the short vid http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=fastest+electric+rc+boat+run&view=detail&mid=EC040E50FF8582C3D5CCEC040E50FF8582C3D5CC&first=21

Wow, the video doesn't translate perfectly 140mph but thats just crazy. I wonder how hard it is to control compared to a land vehicle at those speeds.

Well you can see at the end what happens with any surface disturbance on the water. Those speeds are just too much for that size boat. The larger the boat the easier it will be to control at high speeds but the harder it is to obtain them.

Exactly, that video has been around a long time and the claimed speed has been contested. I don't recall if any proof was ever given. It sure was cruising though!

Actually that boat does still hold the saw record a guy came close to matching it last year at 130+mph not sure on the exact speed here is some vids of some of the best cats out there running in the 115mph range http://www.hpr-powerboats.ch/index_en.htm

I love RC boats, but I never built anything that fast!

And I'm a firm believer in "bigger is better." I built some fast electrics that would scream, but a big stable 4-5 foot gasoline boat is just so much more fun.
