I have a couple Futaba Magnum Jrs. I really like them. They just have the right feel to them in my opinion. Is it possible to convert these to 2.4ghz?
Or convert any of the older radios for that matter?

Which model is it, what does it say at the bottom of the pistol grip?

The PCM 1024 Magnum - 3PB can be converted to 2.4Ghz

Spektrum offered conversion sets / kits, and the Hitec Lynx 3D was able to be converted to 2.4Ghz

Its a Magnum Sport. I do have Magnum Jrs also.
It says FP-T2PB.

No I do not believe that radio is convertible to 2.4 - most radios that were able to, had modules in them! Is your goal just to use the radio again, if so LRP, Novak, Tekin and Dynamite had nice receivers that you could use with them back in the day. Otherwise you can pick up a 2.4 for relatively cheap now!

I know what you mean. I love the feel of my old magnum as well, just has the right size and weight. But when a new fly sky can be had with receiver for 45 bux, not much point.

if you were really in love with the magnum, you could probably gut a cheap 2.4Ghz radio and put the guts into the Magnum framework.

If it's an FM, you could try this Corona 2.4GHz DIY module and receiver:

I have one of the Losi 2.4 ghz ones. I might try it.
I dont even power the magnum with AA's. I use a 7.4 nimh battery. It lasts a long time!

Sadly its an AM transmitter. I think I have a couple Futaba FM transmitters hanging around somewhere.
I'll take a look at the transmitters and see if I can swap the internals out.

I know this is an old thread, but it's worth another look.

You CAN turn an old futaba magnum to 2.4, using the FrSky DHT DYI kit.

The old magnums had either the "CD8081N" or "NE5044" signal IC.

Both chips are almost identical 16 pin IC's.

Pin 11 is the PPM(signal).

Pin 16 is the VCC(+).

Pin 8 is the ground(-).

I tried to upload pictures of my 2.4 conversion, but apparently I'm doing it wrong.

I would love to see pics of the conversion you have done. More than likely the files are too large, and you need to down size them before the site will accept -it took me a while too . I did get a good chuckle though. Can convert a radio from antiquity to 2.4 Ghz, but can't figure out how to upload a pic of it. Sorry, not being a d!ck, just caught me as funny. -Jeff

If using an AM TX to convert, how hard is it and what's involved other than buying the right kit (and what is the right kit)
