rc10 stealth louder than b4 tranny?

is it me or is it just such an oldie that the original stealth is not as quiet as the my newer b4's?.everything on it has been rebuild and ive checked everything it s not the diff too lose etc....no binding.

I would guess that it is. Newer technology should run more efficiently.

Do you have the same gear spacing between the spur and pinion on both? A tight pinion can cause a lot of noise too.

Nothing old is nearly as efficient as the new stuff. Not even the chain or belt drives.


A lot of dirt oval guys still run the old Stealth gearboxes, and will replace the internal gears with 64p Thorp versions, or narrowed stock 48p gears, and really work on the friction in them until they spin effortlessly. Great tranny, but the new Losi and Associated gearboxes are as efficient as direct drive diffs.

when i raced dirt oval, i used to spend a lot of time with my trannies. you could blow lightly on the spur, and it would spin. friction is not your friend. it's really all in the bearings.
