Racer's insurance?

I had an idea the other day about a type of insurance, kinda like a protection plan, that could be purchased on race day.

You sign up to race for the weekend, but you also have an option to sign up for insurance at $10.00 that would cover any parts broken during the weekend. If 100 racers showed up, the shop would get $1,000.00, so they could easily replace A-arms, bulkheads and an occasional speed controller/battery.

I am not sure if anyone would even opt to sign up for it, I know I never buy a protection plan. It was just a crazy idea I had bouncing around.

It's an interesting concept for sure. Of course depending on your track the price may have to be adjusted. I think you'd run the risk of fraud running rampant though. It would be hard to prove whether or not a part was broken on the track. I could see a lot of unscrupulous people taking advantage of such a program.

I agree. Lets see... people are prosecuted all the time for Auto Insurance fraud, Medical Insurance fraud, Home Insurance fraud. I think every kind of insurance has had fraud so why would be this any different.

You would need "licensed" inspectors taking apart the cars pre/post race for a necessary exam, have marshals trained in "accident fault" insurance, come up with a deductible schedule, and keep an eye out for bashers who decide to race because, "hey, free parts!"

I dont think it would be that hard to watch it. Tech all cars covered and ony pay out if it breaks whlie racing in front of everybody

Of course new racers must be charged accordingly. So, there would need to be a comprehensive fom to fill out before you get covered. Experience, type of car, history, etc.

as a "racer", shouldn't you always have spare parts on hand before you even leave your house? back when i raced weekly, my parts/electronics box contained enough stuff to build another car, minus a chassis. if i broke that, i was having a bad day and should just go home anyway.

Every track should havd a stocked hobby shop so I don't have to carry a full cars worth of spares when I go racing. Also, jwscab sent me some b44.1 suspension spares for this weekend and 1 front arm, caster block, shock tower and shock cap were needed..............not for me but another racer

I know back in the 80's finding an open hobby shop to buy parts was next to impossible on race day, so I did carry enough spares. Today my local track has a very well stocked hobby shop, so I know I cna buy anything I break, well except for a RC-10 shock tower ...

that logic only works when the track you're at has an on-site hobby shop. 75% of the tracks i raced at didn't, you had to be self sufficient. the track might have been affiliated with a hobby shop, but you weren't gonna go and drive there to pick up a part in between heats.
