Trailing arms

Post by pastimesteve »

Hi guys,

I've done some fairly extensive searches here on the various trailing arm kits for the gold pan, and I have a couple of questions.

1. It seems like these extend the wheelbase, is that correct? If so, I'm not sure they'd work for my purpose.
2. Are they a good option for a runner? I wanted to install a set on my RC10 baja bug, which gets run regularly. Are they reliable?
3. Are the reproduction kits that are available now (at least they seem to be, emailing Daryl now), well made and do they hold up? I only found 59burst's thread on these and there wasn't a long-term report.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

1. I do not believe the ones that have been made (A&L, Andy's, Houge, MIP) extended the wheel base. They did change the suspension and rear A-arm geometry, I believe more for traction purposes.

2. They are good for runners, probably not as light as standard a-arms. I ran a set of A&Ls in the late eighties and they were very reliable. Never had any problems or broken parts.

3. The A&L kit is the only one I know of that is readily available for the moment. The other kits are hit and miss on ebay (possibly not complete).

Thanks for the information! Much appreciated!
