Tl01 experiance?

I have with in the last few weeks aquired a Tl01. Right now it is bone stock except electrics motor and body. Right now I have it set up with an old 12t double with the 19 tooth pinion. Riding on top for now is a HPI Silverado body.
So my questions are
When was this kit originally made?
Even with the small range of gear selection for it is this still a competitive street racer?
What are my options to build with this? On road or off road
And may I see what some other tl01 owners have done with them?

I have a tl01!
It was made back around 2001? thru 200?
It is a great car for running around the neighborhood, but it really only competes with tl01s and tt01s.
The tl01 is in it's waning days and parts are getting harder to find. Unless you trust these hong kong shops....
Mine has bearings, an almost full aluminum suspension (need c-hubs and knuckles), ta03 ball diffs with lightweight out drives, ta03 shocks with mip gold un obtanium shock shafts, the only set (to my knowledge) of mip shiny cvds fr and rr, hg aluminum wheels, purple screwed thru-out, light weight drive shaft, hollow carbon gear shafts, speed tuned gears.... Pics in a few...

The TL01 is the onroad 4wd equivalent of the grasshopper... add bearings, maybe oil shocks but leave it alone beyond that and enjoy it for what it is, ie an indestructible entry-level RC car to mess with in your driveway

Good to know. It already has bearings from the guy I got it from. I think I am going to pull the 12t motor and put either my tamiya sport tuned or one of my stinger 20t motors in it. Possibly put my only esc with reverse in it. Maybe make a drifter out of it with a 66 mustang coupe shell from hpi. Put it next to my hpi rs4 rally on the shelf.

I have almost every hop up for it. Never made much of a difference in performance but it looks damn cool plus I have lame bragging rights that I dumped a fortune into it.

I used to run a 10triple in it!! Tore up tires quick! I run a regular stock motor with a 21 tooth pinion now.

So the stock motor and 21t a good set up for it? Looking at the gears a brushless would probably waste the quick. So I already know I am not going there.

I think TL01 chassis is the best 4x4 basher .. The cars and the buggys are a ton of fun and very strong..Just add bearings and have fun..Stadium raider is my fav TL01 i bought 1 when they first came out and i still have it

I remember the stadium raider. I always thought they where great bashers myself but never had one. To
Hmmmm. Got me thinking now maybe not a stadium raider but some thing like it but with a realistic body for off road. Maybe a Raptor. I use to have a tamiya red chassis f150 baja looking truck back in the day. I regret selling it. This seems like a good chassis to build something like it

with just a few options the f150 is a far superior vehicle.
that said tl01's are fun, you can have no fear and drive WOT all the time and rarely break. tl01's share alot of parts with the mini m03's too (another tough car).
