What are the advantages/disadvantages of using endbell covers. I have a Reedy Modified brushed motor with an Edinger address. While I don't believe the soft plastic endbell cover came with the orignal kit, somewhere along the way I ended up with one on the motor. I'm restoring the car to be used as a runner. Should I keep the endbell cover on the motor?

No, endbell cover are famous for melting endbells because of heat build up. -Jeff

the point of the covers is to keep dirt out. but what it don't do is cover all the holes in the motor that will allow dirt to get in. since they don't always cover the side vents which are on a lot of motor can dirt can and will still get in. also since it don't cover the vent holes at the other end of the can dirt can still get in. now you have many ways left for dirt to get in the endbell cover becomes a dirt collector on the inside not allowing dirt to get out of the motor. this alone can cause issues but add in the fact that it is also preventing heat from escaping it is a combination for serious issues later on.

if it is on a shelf car that don't get driven leave it onto pad your list of custom parts. if the car is a runner then take it off and just do the normal maintenance of giving the motor a shot of motor cleaner once in a while to flush it out.
