yeah it's a yr-4m2, but with a twist. looks to be, either, a very early u.s.a. version or they bought the revised shock towers and larger shocks seperately. i don't get the front turnbuckles hooked up from the top plate to the carriers.
looks like the batteries took a dump on each side of the chassis. you should clean that up right away. i also see one of the battery craddles is the optional penguin 4 cell craddle.

the Japanese version had the smaller red shocks, different shock towers, and the super soft black universals. i still say it's an early u.s.a. version. right before the chassis went through an evolution, and came with all the pretty blue stuff.
the only way to tell is the manual and supplements that were included.

I totally missed that Penguin battery tray!
Didn't the Type J also have a different chassis with slots, upper deck, motor mount/diff housing, diffs, gears and belts?

the other one you're thinking about is the yr-4 m2 pro. that one was totally revamped.
the early yr-4m2 japanese and usa versions were identical to the pictures. with the exception of the shock towers, shocks, universals, and some other bits. they used the same kit box, but the usa version had a sticker on the front that read u.s. version and something about updated shocks.

I do believe i still have the original towers and all the original parts, except the shocks if there different. Can anyone tell me the timeline of the Yr4-m2, m2 pro. and U.S., and Japanese if possible, i do believe i got this car when i was like 16 in 96 or maybe 97'! Chassis is all cleaned, fresh bolts, replaced belts and rebuilt everything except shocks!! Smoke-dog has the body comn soon!! does any1 have the flanged serratted locknuts for battery trays?

+1 USA version pending kits original contents. Many had stickers added to the box to denote additional parts ,updates or spec.
