Hi Guys, just wondered what was the preffered cell location on the Cougar 1-2's.

I see the Works cars had the cells down the middle, some of the Cougar 1's have saddles mounted at the back or a stick pack accross the rear of the chassis.

Not sure what to do on my car??

Is the Works centre battery clamp still available??

Are you going to run the buggy? When i ran mine back in the day, i ran mostly with a stick pack mounted at the rear for extra grip. If i was running indoors on carpet where the grip was less of a problem i ran a stick down the centre.

If you're not going to run it, then i suppose it only matters what you like the look of

The standard cell location for all TopCat/Cougar 1 & 2 except for the Club 10 cars was down the middle. The Club 10 cars had provision for a 'stick' pack to run across the chassis which I think was mainly to give room for the mechaical speed controller, but there was also the optional straps which would allow the use of saddle packs.

The plastic strap/battery bar for the 'Works' Cougar2 is quite a rare part as it was unique to that car, the original Cougar 2 had a similar bar but was made of white GRP/G10 material.

I was rather gutted recently as I found & indeed won an ebay auction for a Works Battery strap - & for what I thought was a very reasonable price... unfortunately it never arrived http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCHUMACHER-COUGAR-2WD-SADDLE-PACK-STRAP-VINTAGE-/180712387459?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item2a134c3383 Judging by how willing the seller was to refund me the money... that he'd probably been offered far more for the part after i'd won the auction???

Thanks for the replys, I am going to run it at local club in 2wd for a bit of fun (have a Vega B4.1 for serious racing!) its on polished wood floor so will run the cells in a stick pack fashion at the rear of the chassis to aid grip.

Do fiberlyte make a works battery strap??

Is the plastic part that bolts to the chassis for the works available from Schumacher anymore?? Didnt know if they used this on any other cars, Big 6 etc??

Found a U254, from the Cougar club 10, not sure what this will look like??

Thats the standard battery cup with the small strap that ties down over the top - you need two of these to replicate the Club10 set-up (one each side) Its the same 'cup' part that is used at the front for a centrally mounted battery.

It might be worth checking that your batteries fit across the chassis - later NiMh cells were of a larger size - on my 'Works' car they are too large to fit under the bulkhead at the rear & I think too long to fit in the cup at the front when screwed down using the original holes in the chassis.

Ok I'll get 2 x of these on order and I'll be covered for both options of layout, I am going to have this as a runner so will try a lipo in it and some 1700 SCRC for when its on show in my office!

If any one has a Works battery strap can they draw around it and e-mail a copy so I can get one made??

I run my batteries down the centre of the chassis in all my Cougars. This seems to work well enough for me and you actualy dont need either of the factory battery straps when using a lipo stick pack. Infact I had to remove much of the rear bulkhead just to fit the battery in. A small tab remains on the bulkhead to hold the back end down while a simple strap held in place with two posts at the front does the job.

I consider myself a very big fan of the alloy pan Cougar's (and Topcat) and have raced a handful of different incarnations of this platform over recent years at vintage meetings. For me the car is a dead set winner. Im yet to have one of these cars let me down.

The good thing with the early Cougars was the parts are so interchangable between the different cars which definately aid in tuning to suit your driving style and track conditions. Ive run Topcat's with Cougar2 works parts and most items just fit straight up.

Of course I dont mind the pictures, they are inspiring me to build my car up and race it now!
